Can we control our expectations?

Many people say that the expectation is the root of unhappiness. Because we become sad when our expectations are not fulfilled. If we fail to get what we want, we become unhappy. That is right to some extent. However, can we control our expectations in real life? If at all we can, then should we try to control our expectation? How?

That is right, controling our expectations, is not an easy job. However, one has to learn many difficult things in the life. I think that one of the ways to control our expectations is to know our limitations and for that we have to be realistic rather than being pessimist. We must accept our limitations and try to work within our limitations and thus we may be able to control our expectations.
