What is life? What do we live for?

Sometimes, I will think over this question: What so we live for? It seems that life is not easy. Maybe we have to decide on something that we are actually not willing to do. There are so many things that are against our wishes. The fact is that we have to accept placidly. Yesterday I saw two old men sitting in the sunshine at the foot of a building. They are too old, maybe, to run, to do things quickly, I thought. Time goes so fast, in the future, I will become one member of them. It is terrible. I have to rely on others. If only I could make the choices according to my own wishes! When I was in high school, I wanted to take art. But I failed for my parents didn't allow me to take it. The reason for that is to be an artist is a tough career. And it is hard for an artist to find a job in our country. So I followed their advice. I took the subject that I neither like nor dislike. After graduation from the university, I took the job which was comparatively easy to obtain. The reason was that I have to find a stable one and guarantee an ease retired life. During the work, just working hard can not make you an excellent employee. We have to deal with the relationships, the hardest relationships between the most sophisticated life. After the marriage, I began to realize that marriage is not just the couple's business in our culture. I have to make great effort to maintain good ralationship with my parents-in-law. Life is so hard. God created people and let them suffer? What do we live for? I usually compare humanbeings to the ant. Facing the nature, they are so weak, just like the human beings which may disappear after the anger of nature, such as the flood, the earthquake. We are taught to enjoy the life and cherish life. However, sometimes we have no choice.

This is an excellent discussion. This question forms in our mind in one stage or other of our life span. Especially when we become adults and the days pass by at a rapid pace. The whole life seems to look meaning less as everything becomes past and history with every passing second. And we are racing to the inevitable finality. I think if we start thinking deeply we will shun all the worldly pleasures and become the monks or saints immediately. Well the purpose of us being here is solely for the procreation. We are here in this planet to leave more offspring and let them make more so that this human race survives as long as the world exists. As we procreate we beget our children who bring us more responsibilities and pleasures and try to make our lives interesting and entertaining. All our relationships are supposed to make us feel that we have a job to do and have a responsibility. We are made to forget the reality of nothingness with these false relationship pleasures. Well since we have not asked to be born and as this life is thrust upon us we must make our best to make our lifetime happy and purposeful. Otherwise we will be wasting each and every precious second. The life goes on whether we are happy and content or sad and grumbling. So it is wise and better to be happy.

You are quite right. To grow means to take responsibility. It would be a great pleasure to see the offsprings growing happily. I will try my best to make it come true. For quite a long time, I have not come here. So give you my delayed response and thanks.
