Hello kenchiprincess, I have just finished baking my "canonigo cake" it's a special cake that I doubt if you can see one in cake store, because I have just made it up and make it my specialty, and gave it's name out of my surname It is made of a chiffon cake, then I put a somewhat like "leche plan " on top, then I prepared the meringue on top of the leche plan and bake it again in a very slow temperature until meringue gets fully yellow brown... hmmm, yummy. I hope I can show the picture. Happy new year.

I don't really know what we are having for New Year's Eve. We have been so busy we have not gotten to deciding what we would like to have. I wish we get to have a lot of food though but that takes a lot of preparation and I don't think any of us in the house is up for that and well, then, we have a lot of leftovers. Happy 2009 to you too, Kenchiprincess.

Wow that is great to hear that your family has a special recipe where each of the member would be cooking it at a time. I hope you will do good with your cooking or else you and your family won't be able to eat it if you mess up with it. LOL. Thanks for sharing and I hope you'll do it good.

Every new year my dad and I BBQ a chicken and I make potato salad and sometimes lo mien to go along with it. I know it doesn't sound too big and extravagant but it's almost like a tradition for us. We usually start BBQ-ing the chicken late into the night so we eat very close to midnight and then go outside in the gallery and relax to watch firework. I also bought some myself to shoot into the air tonight (and don't worry...my dogs are secured)
Right now I am making Chocolate Truffles With Liqueur (basically chocolate truffles with your favourite liqueur mixed in) and I just had some delicious hot white chocolate with a nice generous grating of milk chocolate. At the moment I feel really satisfied and I'm not sure I'd snack on those truffles till tomorrow.
I do wish I didn't run out of cereal so I could make a snack called Puppy Chow. I recently discovered it and oh gosh it is So Good! It is a lovely snack "mix".
Well, Happy New Year to you!

Hey I hope you enjoyed your New Year celebration. I don't mind sharing the recipe with you! http://www.recipezaar.com/Puppy-Chow-or-Monkey-Munch-74048
You don't need to make such a large batch at first. I actually cut the serving down to one cause I only had enough cereal for a single serving that day. There are many other recipes for this treat (usually sweeter it seems or without butter or vanilla included) This stuff is so good you won't want to stop munching it.
I did enjoy my New Years feast and I did end up eating a couple truffles along the way too

Cooking ribs and kraut for New Years Eve, has to be done by midnight. It is what we in Ohio or at least that is what I believe most cook for new years. There was only 2 cans of kraut left in the store yesterday. It is suppose to bring you good luck and money in the new year. Sorry to say it hasn't done it yet for us. But I love the kraut on top mashed potatoes. May talk to daughter and see if we can cook it all together.

Time sure flies, and a year has passed so quickly. This year hasn't been that great especially for the economy, stock market, high fuel and gasoline prices, inflation and all the turmoil in the world. Let's hope the new year will bring new hopes and aspirations, and a better tomorrow for all of us.
In our home, we usually welcome the new year with (what else) a feast! Being new year's eve, we're having our traditional steamboat dinner tonight. It is a kind of hotpot of food, where one cooks whatever ingredient one likes to eat in a boiling rich chicken stock contained in a steamboat pot, and eats the food with chilli sauce and other garnish. You can see a picture of a steamboat meal here - that's not ours...I just plucked it off the internet, but what we have will be kinda similar. We have lots of ingredients in a steamboat dinner - vegetables, chicken, pork, beef, fish balls, pork balls, prawns, fish, squid, crab, liver, abalone, mushrooms and a couple of other stuff.
Hope you will have a great celebration tonight to welcome in the new year.

I am still thinking now of what to cook for new year. What special food I will make. I am not sure what!! here in this area where I am now, as if nothing happens here on new year. Not like in my country where people are so busy preparing, roasting, making special food for family and friends but here? I did not hear anything special done by friends or neighbors. I am not sure what other people are up to.

I always cook a roast of beef with creamy mashed potatoes, cauliflower cheese, vegtables and gravy on New Years day. I think it is nice to start of the New Year with a good meal.
On New Years Eve I am going to a party and I am going to make lasagne, egg sandwhiches and sausages rolls to bring along with me. They always go down well with everyone.
Yes! I hope everyone has a blast and a really good time also. Happy New year everyone and I wish yous all the best for 2009.

hello my friend,
I have never plan to cook anything for the new year's eve. Here in US, I don't feel the merry of the Christmas. It is very different here. There is no celebration like what we do in out country. Seems like an ordinary day. People are not so busy preparing for what they are going to eat.. hahaha I don;t know for some but... to most people I know here in the neighborhood? as if nothing happens. Of course they maybe have a celebration but very different from ours there. Not a festive one here.
happy new year!!
