I'm currently reading a book on the philosophy of religion called Who Knows? and I'm wondering if anyone is reading it. The author contends that it's not really important whether or not you believe in God. The real issue is what kind of God you believe in. Benevolent and forgiving? Or judgmental and punishing? What do you believe in?

Either you misunderstood what the author had to say, or he's fairly stupid. If you don't believe in any god, how can there be a question of what kind of god it is? Maybe he's one of those people who insist that everyone believes in god, whether they know it or not. Certainly not a book I'd waste my time on.

Maybe I didn't word it correctly. The author is seperating the two issues. He contends that it is more important to your spirituality to determine what kind of God you believe in than whether or not you believe in a God. Once you determine that you don't believe in a God, you don't have to worry about it anymore. But if you do believe in one, it really matters whether you believe that they are there to punish mankind or to guide and help us. It plays into how you live your life. What do you think?
