Why do we travel?
Why it is never enough and satisfying to live in one place?
Why do want to go SOMEWHERE and to see SOMETHING when all what we need is right next to us?
A video of "Where a h*ll is Matt: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY
Do Yo like to travel? Would You like to travel? Why YES and WHY not? Would it be enough for You to travel all around the world just by sitting right in front of Your computer, or You would prefer to pack Your luggage and go somewhere?

Well...It's the old desire to see what's on the other side of the hill. So you climb up to the top and what do you see? Another blasted hill! So you climb that to see what's on the other side and guess what? Another blasted hill!! And maybe someone selling souvenirs and cold drinks as well.
The fact is, humans like to travel because that's what we have always done because we have insatiable curiosity . Though originally we travelled to find new supplies of food or a better place to live, it was not long before we started to travel just for the sake of travelling (or maybe to get away from the mother-in-law).
Just think, most of the major geographical discoveries were probably made by some poor fellow who was just trying to escape from his mother-in-law (or his wife, she was probably a carbon copy of her mother anyway)
In my case..well I was born with wanderlust, even at the age of 5 I went wandering off to explore and had to be brought back by a policeman who gave my mother a ticking off for not looking after me! After he had finished with her, she started in on me!

Hill after another hill... The land of happiness, surprises and a better life is always SOMEWHERE there: behind this hill...or that one...or maybe the next one.!!! Hahaha, good point.

Wow you should split all those questions up in to multiple topics and you'll make a bunch of cash off people's responses!!
Weeell, your first question is the best and most philosophical so I will answer that one! I think it is in human nature (and more and more so in the modern age) to explore and discover new things. Half of the world would still be very isolated if it weren't for the explorers of our times!
I think that we travel because we, as humans, have the choice to experience a lot of different things in our lifetime and therefore want to take in as much as we can of this earth before we leave it! Ha! I did it ONE sentence!

Hi, Triharder... I will think more about splitting this discussion into more topics, as long as it does not violate the RULES of discussions. As we do not like to see our discussions getting deleted! :(
And congrats for being able to answer my discussion in ONE LOOOOONG sentence, lol!
;) still waiting for others to participate in it!

hmmm, well, you look like you have enough posts under your belt to know what will and will not get deleted! seriously, for the amount of questions you asked you could post 1 a day for the next week and get a good amount of responses! I didn't really read the rules but as far as i know just don't post any referral links and you'll be fine :)

For me I am always interested in how's people life on other side of the world. I want to learn how they live their life their cultures and their tradision. Besides the weather too interests me and how people treat foreingers in their countries. I like to travel a lot a lot and I am doing it over and over again. It is definitely Not enough to just watch in front of my computer. But I look information from here and go to the real place. It is definitely an achievement. and I prefer to backpacking then going through travel agency. :)

Why do I not travel? I haven't been doing any travelling in a long time and I really miss it! I want to get back on a plane and enjoy the attentions of the stewardesses! I don't have the finance but I would just love to see Thailand! I guess I will continue to set those travelling goals and hopefully I will end up somewhere, anywhere apart from London! Andrew

If You would have all the necessary amount of finance: would You spend it ALL on traveling? How much would You need? Can You ever get bored from traveling (imagine You have no limits in Your finances!)?

I love traveling. Traveling not only broadens my horizons but also opens my eyes to the world. What's more, it refreshes me. You can go to Disneyland and experience what it's like to be a child again. You can visit one of the "seven wonders of the world", such as the Grand Canyon and feel the magnificence of nature. Just forget all trifles and burdens that you have in your mind. Experience is a type of living knowledge.
To tell the truth, i don't satisfied with the beautiful scenery in front of the computer. It is too abstract, after all. I prefer to go somewhere and even don't need a tour guide. Haha...
Have a good time and happy new year!

I think man travels different places just to experience happiness. Mostly people explore those places which have been declared "famous" by so called knowledgeable guys. People want to know and experience the same thrill, happiness and satisfaction that the knowledgeable guy would have experienced on visiting that site. For example, any foreigner visiting India makes it a point to try and visit Taj Mahal, regardless of his interest in Indian history or Mughal architecture simply because of the face that Taj is said to be one of the seven wonders of the world.

But aren`t there too many `faked` or `over valued` Taj Mahals in the world?
Would You make thousands of miles just to see something that is considered to be A miracle and A wonder of Nature?
Maybe the best Taj Mahals are in the forest right behind Your house, just that knowledged people never paid Your attention to that one, did they?

I don't mind traveling for a brief period of time but wouldn't want to do it regularly. I enjoy being at my own home at the end of the day and enjoying the comfort of my own bed. While others may travel a lot for business, I guess we usually travel to see people we love and care about.

Hi lisafiat
I like to travel and see places.
Just seeing in computer, will not give you the real pleasure which you experience
when you visit that place.
But for tourism, there is less possibility of common people going out of their town or state or country.
Happy new year.

Traveling is m top hobby and when I was a young child I liked going on family trips to France where I heard the French language. I was delighted to begin learning French when I was 11 years old. I had a globe when I was a young child and held it in my hand and looked to see where different places were. At age 13 I got a paper round and saved up to go to Greece with my mum. Then at age 16 I got a Saturday job in a shop and saved up to go to the Netherlands with my friend when I was 17. I traveled around Europe when I was 18 after I had worked as a children's nanny in Finland. At age 20 I let my home out, got a working holiday visa for Australia and bought an around the world ticket. Since then I have enjoyed traveling to many other countries. I love to pack my bags and go somewhere in the world. My next trip is to Cape Town in mid January. Sitting in front of my laptop helps me prepare for traveling, then off I go to my destination.

Hi,
I feel that we want a change in life many times . Also,we have an inbuilt curiosity to see how people in other places live , what places they live , monuments and sights in other places and so on .
This makes us eager to tour other places .
Regards

I like to travel firstly to get relaxed. Everytime I am back from travel, I feel refreshed from the physical exercises and the natural scenery. I also get enriched mentally from the cutural treasures, especially the different architectures, and arts. During the journey, we are able to know people's life and thoughts, so that we get better informed and nourished.
