I saw the advert for this movie and I thought, well this looks like a nice fantasy adventure about monsters and magic, I thoughht Pans labrinth doesnt sound scary, I made the mistake of thinking peter pan and the labrynth, they are not scary. I also made the mistake of thinking that it featured a child, it would be suitable for a child. Have you seen this movie! Aaaagh! grim and violent, really good though! Also have you ever done that? Saw a trailer and got totally the wrong impression?

I thought this movie was done in Spanish? That was the main reason why I never bothered to it pick up.

yes it is in Spanish, but though it is a bit annoying that you have to read the subtitles, in the end, you'll love the movie..

I knew Pans Labyrinth was a dark fantasy film before I watched it and I thought it was AMAZING. Loved it!

Yup, Pan's Labyrinth is not suited for kids i think because of violence and some gory scenes near the ending. Nobody as kid would love to see a kid dying in a blood of pool right? I also made the same mistake when i thought it's a fantasy film just like The Golden Compass. The Pan is also creepy eventhough he turned out to be one of the good guys in the end. I suggest to go watch Bridge To Terabithia with your kids.

Yeah I have seen some awesome looking trailers in the past only to be really disappointed by the movie.
I haven't seen Pans Labrinth but a friend of mine did go to see this a while ago. He really liked it and he isn't even into horror. I think I will check it out at some point as others have told me they liked it too so I guess it must be good!

Yeah, the same thing happened to me. I saw the trailers and I was really excited about seeing the movie. I was even planning on watching it with my children. Thankfully I had a chance to view it before they saw it. I enjoyed the movie very much but it is definitely not for children.

hmmm.. i never really had the chance of watching the trailer, what i did was just checked it out on imdb website and see how the users rated it. It was highly rated so i watched it.
it was indeed scary..
and i do agree with its rating because it was really good. One of the best Foreign movies i've seen so far. the way fantasy and reality was intertwined was very clever.
and yeah, some trailers are so misleading sometimes, already happened quite a few times with me so what i do now is check out the users' reviews before i go and watch a movie.

it was very clever and I think that the fantsy seemed to make the reality seem much more brutal.

Sometimes trailers are misleading. I don't have kids but if I did I would check out any movie really carefully, maybe asking friends who've seen it or looking at reviews online, before trusting that I can take my kids to it.
I loved Pan's Labyrinth, it probably my favorite foreign film and one of my favorite all time movies. But its definitely not for kids. It's even too violent for some adults. And very scary as well.
It just goes to show you sometimes don't get the whole story from previews.

I haven't seen it but know its based on some ancient myth that pan was some little demon living in a cave guarding the entrance to the underworld or something like that and he played a flute for some reason, don't ask me why.
No Ive never done what you said but I do know of two similar stories.
Years ago when the first Rocky film was out my Auntie rented it out to show her son or at least what she thought was Rocky. It was actually called the Italian Stallion and did in fact star Sly Stallone but it was really an adult entertainment movie if you know what I mean. Dirty dirty like and she sat down to watch it with a five year old, imagine her shock when she saw they were wrestling instead of boxing :-)
Also, do you remember the film Bad Santa? Here in Ireland when that was coming out, the people that are meant to give it a rating so the cinemas know who to show it to didn't bother to watch the movie. They just figured because it was called Bad Santa it must be aimed at children so they gave it a rating of G (General) for children. It was then sent out to Cinemas across the country and parents flocked to see it with their kids. Well, needless to say they weren't happy. If you've seen the movie you'll know why. If you haven't seen it I'd highly recommend it as its extremely funny, just don't watch it with your kids though.
