My family always has cabbage, black eyed peas, and corn bread. It is an old wise tale here that if you eat cabbage and black eyed peas on new years it will bring you money and luck in the coming year.

Well here we eat collards, black eyes, and how jaws. The collards are your dollar bills. The peas are your pennys. The hog jaws are good luck.

Well I hope the meal brings you luck. I don't know what we will have yet. We have a family member who works in the hotel industry. He will be working that evening. So we are trying to get together for breakfast out that morning.

I am here to tell you from experience...that old "wise" tale is bull$hit. I have eaten cabbage and black-eyed peas on New Year's Day for years, and I have never had money OR luck...LOL
