Anyone have pet snakes. I have an albino checkered garter snake, which are about 2 foot long as adults and native to the U.S. I have never owned any constrictors, does anyone know if they make good pets? I would also like a corn snake, because they are colorful and get bigger than garter snakes. What kind of snakes do you guys own?

Corn snakes are the best I've got two and they're pretty easy to take care of and maintain so they're great pets.

Hi actualfactual, we have had several pet snakes, currently we have a ball python. I named Bandit, because of her facial markings. Bandit is adopted, she was a pet for a young boy who didn't know how to care for a snake and was mean to her. When the boy moved out of the house his mother asked us if we wanted the snake and we said sure enough. Bandit is now is a loving home and be cared for properly. Take care, oohcute2340

There is no way I'd have a snake for a pet! I have been scared of snakes all my life. They just aren't meant to be pets to me. I've known of people having them for pets. In fact, someone had a python for a pet near my daughter's home and let it get out. It was a huge snake, and they never found it. It would be my luck to be the one that saw it!

Snakes make wonderful pets! Some constrictors are definately better choices than others...stay away from retics and burmese pythons as they are definately NOT beginner snakes. I believe that a red-tail would make an excellent pet, ball pythons too, but they can be nippy as babies though they will grow out of this in time. Corn snakes are probably one of the best choices you can make for a snake pet. They are usually quite tame, they do not attain huge sizes, and they are very easy to keep. Also with the amazing variety of color morphs available there is pretty much something for everyone. Personally, I have a 5 foot Argentine Boa who is a sweetie and a 3 foot Dumeril's Boa who is pure evil (but beautiful). I am lucky enough to live in an area where there are plenty of wild snakes, I find various garters, bull snakes and hognose snakes in the yard every year. They are amazing creatures!
