I can type fine without looking (its called touch typing). I just put my hands where the f and j keys have an indent and keep it on the home row. I also have Dragon Naturally Speaking which lets me use a headset and I talk into the mic and it transcribes it to text.

It's not free, but I got it for "free" from an online site...
But it takes a really long time to learn the program because there are lots of commands that you need to know to make corrections, words that are not in the dictionary/popular, train it so it gets used to your voice, etc.

I've been typing without looking at the keys ever since I took typing in high school. I've tried to tell my grandkids they need to learn to type with their hands rather than hunt and peck, although they can do that pretty fast. But it's so much easier to type without having to think about where they keys are or trying to find them in a hurry. I used to type about 75 words or more a minute, but I haven't been tested in years, so I have no idea how many I type now.

Hey,
Back a few years it would take me like 5 minutes to find the 'q' key. I was only a really small kid back then (probably about 6 years old at school). Then when I would see all the 'older' people type I thought that I would NEVER ever be able to type that fast in my life. I of course was wrong. When I was 13 years I done a typing test at school and got a certificate. It was pretty bad. I got a typing certificate of 26.8 words per minute. I thought that was quite fast. But other people in the class were averaging about 40 words per minute. Then after I got hooked to MSN my typing speed has increased vastly. Now I can type at about 60 words per minute and I didn't even do any typing costs. BUT I tried to type in the dark and I actually can do it pretty well. But I still haven't mastered all the symbols yet. I can easily type with my eyes closed and the weird thing is that I KNOW when I have done a mistake even though my eyes are closed =) It's true!

I do pretty well without looking at the keyboard - I've been trained well as a kid because my dad really wanted someone who can do pretty cool stuff with the computer. So he started training us with lessons on DOS and stuff - all things I've forgotten but I still ended up as a programmer anyway :P And since I'm in this field and I tend to spend so much time in front of the computer, I was able to develop the most basic skill. I can beat any of my office mates in any type-racing games :D I think my best was 95 words per minute and I normally type around 75-85 when working :)
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

hi zackyo7. Yes, i can type without looking at my keyboard. I trained this from chatting when i was a teenager. But i think my skill is not that good as before as i don't type all the time now. This needs practices.
Well, have a good day and happy mylotting!
