Kolams are believed to bring prosperity to homes and are not meant for just for decoration purposes. As kolams are drawn using coarserice floor, ants, birds and small insects eat it. It sybolises a daily tribute to harmonious co-existence. Kolams are considered to be an invitation to everybody, especially goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of the prosperity. It is said that the lines of the kolams must be completed so asto ensure that evil spirits are prevented from inside of the shapes and thus are prevented from entering the home.
DO YOU BELIEVE ALL THESE TRADITIONS? SHOULD IT PREVAIL?

Hi Anand, i searched for this topic to discuss about it. You gave good info about our traditonal kolam. Wanted to add some thing. Women will draw kolam in early morning. It helps them to get pure oxygen too. And its god exercise for them also. Many good things in that. But nowadays in apartments, people not interest in draing Kolam. In festival time, they drawing atleast. But that too they drawing too early i mean previous day evening itself. I think nowadays they considered it as their duty.
In my childhood, im so crazy about coloring the kolam during festivals. I'll get up early without alarm just to colour the kolam. Those are memorable.
