I am going to attempt making soap this year for gift giving. I have a quite a few recipes. I am making them with several fragrances including sage and citrus, lavendar, and lemon. Have you ever tried making soap at home?

I have tried the melt and pour method using store bought soap, but would like to try making it from scratch.

I can always remember my mum keeping all the old bits of soap in an old saucepan in the bottom of the cupboard in the kitchen. Then when she had enough, melting them down and makeing a new bar or two out of all the old bits! Now thats what i call saving money!

I will send you the recipes and links for making your own soaps. I too am looking for products that I could sell. My brother and his wife are making shortbread and doing quite well at selling it. It has always been my hope to be able to start a business of my own. Maybe we will both have luck on our side. I have many ideas that I could share with you. Keep an eye on my topic posts.

I've never tried making my own. I did visit a woman that raised rats one time and she made soap. She gave a bar to the women I brought to see her rats. It was great smelling but none of them tried it...they all put in in their dressers. I may try it sometime but I'm more looking forward to making candles.

I have not, but it seems to be a very popular homesteading activity and I would like to give it a go myself. I am a little apprehensive about it though. I would like to get a milk goat and make goat's milk soap, it is supposed to be very healthy for your skin.
