This makes sense that survivors would be insulted because this mocks the whole thing. People of different races and creeds were murdered and this makes it into some sort of joke because his story turned out to be one - a bad joke that is.
Basically a boy survived the holocaust due to a girl throwing him an apple. Met her years later and married. I believed it because he was featured on Oprah and it got a lot of coverage.

What do you think about this? I couldn't help but feel shocked because i too was suckered in, at first i thought it was fake but when the man got on Oprah.. then it was a closed deal you know? Do you blame those who promoted his story and supported him for not searching deeper for proof or anything?

Although the man was wrong, I think they are making to big a deal of this whole thing. True, he should have called it a fiction, based on true facts, but he didn't. Had I read the story and found out it was fake would I be mad...no, bummed maybe. The point is, he wanted people reading this story to feel joy and hope in a world that seems to be lacking both. He's not trying to make a joke out of it. The man lived it, I'm sure he doesn't see anything funny about it. Maybe this is his way of dealing with it. As far as Oprah goes...This isn't the first time this has happened to her. Though I feel bad for her, maybe now it's a lesson learned...move on.
Happy New Year!

Well said Rhonda... i can't say i was insulted rather just surprised more like it. A person want's to believe that after so many years a person could still be reunited with the person they care for so deeply... i guess that is why his story took off because as you said gave a sense of hope or joy..
