What would you do if someone disses you in a discussion?

This is quite interesting. How would you, my fellow mylotters, react when someone disses your opinion in a discussion and started calling you names? What if he flames you personally and called you an idiot, whatsoever? Would you:
* Attack him as well or at least defend yourself
* Let him be
* Report him to the admin?
What would you guys do?

For me it all comes down to the context of what they are saying to me or about me and HOW they are saying it. Yes, I will defend myself and I think we all should! And if they completely step over the line, then they should be reported. The most important thing of all though is to be 100% sure you have your facts right and to never stoop to the same level as them if they become abusive. You can still argue your point and defend yourself while maintaining your dignity and some sense of control.

Yes, I agree with you. That's the reason moderators and administrators are around; to prevent people from attacking each other in a forum and to put in line those that dare to do so. Happy mylotting my friends!

Lots of options are open that you can do without becoming part of the flaming party.
Some I've tried include making my point again and asking the person to please stop twisting my words around to suit his/her personal agenda; thanking him/her for his/her gracious compliment; or simply typing in one word: WhatEVER!

True.... I've participated in enough forums to know that it is never good to flame your fellow members because it is a sure-way to get banned sooner or later. Yeah, I do say "whatever" but I've decided; if it happens to me, that person will have a report filed on his record. lol.
Thanks, and happy mylotting!

Generally I don't do anything. I wouldn't want to start something. Really it isn't worth getting upset. I'd ignore it. I have better things to do with my time.

I guess you're right. I would ignore what he's saying, and would not give him a taste of his own medicine for my own good. However, i couldn't help but report and rate him lol.

On myLot it is best not to attack the person back because we would be in the same boat as the other person. Even defending oneself can be taken as a personal attack by the other person resulting in a continuity of the war of words. Once I tried to say something in a nice manner and the reaction was totally way out.
My present attitude is to let it be. Others will probably read the thread and come to their conclusion. Not all of us here are too emtional or hysterical.
all the best,
rosdimy

True, true. Somehow I've been around a few forums in a few years that I just let it be and let the admins do their work. That's what moderators and administrators are here for, after all.
One thing for sure, I'm not leaving mylot just because of that. Cheers~

I know you are being hacked by those guy who responded to the thread that I have created.
Bai, one way of eliminating them is to put up a very good comment to the point that he will retaliate and resort to attacking below the belt. With lots of things to report, the guy will surely be banned from here in mylot. But always put it that you will not blurt any foul words but only words behind the mask. :)

Better just leave him alone. Yes, I agree with you. Some people tend to resort to attacking below the belt if they encounter a point that they cannot argue with. He had some points as well, but I find it pointless to call people "morons" because their opinions don't agree with his.

He already did that if you notice. Happy mylotting!

Well actually I already did, just now. I wouldn't post here what he did because he might read it, and I won't post what I did as well. However, nice decision. I guess that's the reason the admins are here for. This is supposed to be a friendly forum, not a room for people to flame those that have different opinions than theirs.
