The Euro seems strong at the moment compared with the British pound. Do you think it was a mistake for Britain to opt out of being in the Euro Zone?

I don't think Great Britain should join the Euro zone. I don't know much about economy and stuff like that, but why would they adopt a weaker currency than their own?

NO! Becoming part of Europe was the worst thing that ever happened to Britain. Edward Heath tricked the population into joining based on a common marketplace. Subsequently we have seen serious assaults made on our sovereignty, our economy and our legal system to the faceless suits in Brussels. We are in recession and the strength of the Euro is alarming. But once recession starts to bite in those states that use the Euro it will weaken. Oh to have a referendum.

So do you think that UK will be weakened if it adopts the Euro?

Our economy will be. We will fall in line with other euro states and then suffer the vagaries not of our market, but all of Europe's economies be they weak or strong. We are allegedly the sixth strongest economy in the world. As we have no sizeable manufacturing base now, I wonder how that can be. The UK is in a mess largely of its own doing. We have been run by greedy bankers who chased fast bucks and conned the population into a "jam today" mentality. But harnessing ourselves to the Euro will not help us. However, as we live in a time of knee jerk politics, I suspect that we will end up losing our currency as well. There's no moral backbone in British politicians any more.

What are the possible implications if the British pound joins the Euro zone? Actually, some of my friends were discussing about the pounds and euros almost losing the distinct differences in terms of exchange rate here in my country.

Hi ronald..No I don't think it was wrong for Britain to opt out of the Euro..no matter how you look at it Britain is still its own country and is richer than others in staying with our own country's currency, wether it may be less than the Euro and Dollar or not....littleowl

Hi littleowl, I agree with you, I couldn't have put it better, other countries are Euros and they are so poor but I still think our pounds are and will be still stronger then the Euros, lets hope we don't go Euros like the rest. Love and hugs. Tamara

I don't think that they want to join but right now the sterling is at par with the euro.

Hi ronaldinu, Yes, at the moment there are stronger, but how long with it last? I like the British pound and hope it will stay a British pound as our PM is talking about going Euro but why do we have to follow like sheep? I want British pound to stay that way. Tamara

The only advantage for me would be that I would not need to make any money exchange when I visit your country :)

I think it depends on British govt although the way I see it when it comes to recession all currencies are affected anyway It doesn't matter economy zone or not it's global I've heard people from europe aren't happy using Euro too anyway because it's an economy zone so currency is not the only thing that will change in value

I think the world is having a recession at the moment. The British Pound has gone up and down related to other currencies. I am glad that it didn't adopt the Euro. It is about a countries identity however traveling in mainland Europe I don't have to carry ten different currencies anymore. I hope that the British Pound will recover in a few years time. Whenever I have been to the USA Sterling has been low and I have got poor value. It was strong in Australia however.

I personally think this is a good idea. At least it seems much more convenient as there is only one currency in Europe. So people don't have to change different currency when they travel to UK. I love China

No, i dun think so.. All along, Pounds are pretty strong on their own, and they are not really affected by most economy crisis etc.. It's just that this recent happenings had a huge impact on it, and thus their value started to drop by a little.. BUt i believe by time, this recession ends, pounds will bounce back again, and Euro will only be on par with pounds, but definitely wont be stronger than it ^_^

No I don't think Britain should. I believe that at the moment we are going through a slight momentary blip. I think that within the next 5 years, the pound will be stronger again.
