Calling an Avon Rep for questions!

Im curious about becoming an Avon rep and i have a few questions that the Avon site does not answer without me having to actually apply and wait to be contacted. so..here goes! the site says "For the price of a lipstick..." that being the amount i have to pay in order to become a rep right? so..what exactly do they consider the price of a lipstick? does that mean i have to buy the products first myself and then try to sell them? the site also seems to stress that i could make more money by recruiting and mentoring other women to become Avon reps themselves..isnt that the essence of a pyramid scheme? do i make a percentage off of what they sell or something? If i apply will i have to go to seminars and conventions..or can it all be done online from home? Are there Quotas to meet? If so is there a monetary penalty for NOT making that quota?

I'm not an Avon rep, but I did research the company several months ago, as I was considering selling it too... What they mean about the 'price of a lipstick' is... It costs like $10 to become a consultant. With that $10, you get your personalized Avon website and online training tools, discounted products, etc. If I recall correctly, you do not have to meet quotas, you just sell whatever you can. As far as keeping an inventory, this is not required... as a matter of fact, I don't think it's even a good idea - since the products change so much, go out of season, etc... You will sell products through the website they give you, and also by distributing the Avon Catalogs - which I'm sure you've seen. And don't worry... Avon is not a pyramid scheme... there is a DEFINITE difference between Direct Selling Companies (like Avon, MaryKay, Amway, etc.) and the pyramid schemes... You have nothing to worry about when it comes to avon. But, yes, you will sign up under someone who is already a consultant... and they get some kind of commission based on how much you sell. - This does not take money out of your pocket, its just incentive for the person you sign up under to HELP YOU become successful in your business! It is in her best interest to help you with the training, answer any questions you have, etc... - This incentive also gives you a little push to recruit new reps that will sign up under you... works both ways. Have no fear, Avon is a solid, honest company... there are no hidden costs or obligations. I would suggest you contact a near-by rep and talk to her about it... she will be able to answer all your questions and get you signed up!

The only thing I know is I buy it. And I don't buy all the time just when I need something. But a lady at work her Mom sold it for years and then she just started giving us all a break on things as she was on longer going to do it. So now I Have found another person at work that gets it. But let me know how it goes if you get into it or not. Your friend onlydia

All I know is that the few people I ever knew selling Avon, had problems with them after a while.
