We're going to have to try a new dog food.

Our dog most likely has food alergies. For the last year or so, she's been on a raw diet so that she is not exposed to many by-products or preservatives. Well, that's not working so we have to try something else. The vet told us to stay away from protiens (beef, chicken) and grains. He said the best thing for us to try is a turtle or fish based food with potatoes. So, today I'm going to the pet store to get some new dog food. We're very anxious to see what we can find and also to see if our dog will eat it! Hopefully we can find something that works right away because her skin gets so irritated.
Do you have to give your dog a special diet or can they eat just whatever?

Have you thought about trying a vegetarian diet? They make a vegetarian diet for animals and my friend went to that she has five dogs and four of the five did well on it. the one who did not had diarrhea and then she changed to something else. She changed to vegetarian diet for her dogs because she is a total vegetarian and decided her dogs needed to be also.

We thought about that too, because she does love veggies. We're going to start with the sweet potato & fish and see how that does. Today was her first meal with it and she did eat it. We were worried that she wouldn't want to eat dry food since she's had the raw food for so long. The vet said it would take 4-6 weeks to see if it's better for her or not, so I won't know if I need to switch again for a while.

I hope she does good on the new food. Mine are doing well on Benefuls except Daisy May has pushed all the food out of the dish to look for certain pieces. What a silly girl she is.

I have been involved in dogsports, breeding, and training for over 30 years and have probably tried every dog food there is. For the past 9 years I have fed Flint River Ranch exclusively and also recommend it to my clients and rescue associates. I've had several hypoallerginic dogs switched to the FFR and within a week or two had noticeable skin & coat improvements. There is more info at my site www.dogguy.us or feel free to ask me any questions you might have.

Thanks, I may take you up on that. So far, she's doing very well with the sweet potato/fish diet from D Van Patten, I think that's what it was. We're going to keep her on this for at least a few more weeks to see how she does. So far so good!
