Just giving you a something from the traditional school of thought here on the island. How that should be interpretted ,I dont know and how seriuosly people take it today but older persons would avoid doing anything unprogressive on new years day.Maybe it was just a thought to get you in a positive frame of mind for the rest of the year Have you ever heard anything like this and do you have similar beliefs for new years day where you are at ?

Hi there! It is ok to have a positive thinking on or before the New Year. That will set your mind and focus on the good things and progressive attitudes for the whole year. So, some people settled their negative attitudes or things undone before the end of the year. A tradition which have been passed over generations. Hoping for a better year to come for themselves and the rest of the family. Happy New Year (2009) from Saudi Arabia.

Hello ronnyb. To begin with, I am from the south of China. Here we have the saying that what we do on the first day of the year, we will do for the rest of the year. So we are always careful to do something positive and pleasant on this special day so as to expect good luck to fall on us. We are given this thought from generation to generation. I got to know this from my parents. Happy New Year to you, friend. I wish you the best of the new year--2009.

Yes, I have heard of it before and some people I know take it seriously. My grandma told me about it a long time ago and I can of stuck with for a while until I realize that the things I did when the New Year came in did not go through out the year, not saying my grandma told me a fib but it never seems that way with me.

I have heard that my entire life. I sure hope it ain't true. So far on the first I went to the store, did two loads of dishes, made homemade soup, and worked on mylot. Oh yeah, of course I woke up with a pounding headache. I can deal with the rest of it but I sure don't want a headache everyday this year. Ohh! Where are my BC's.

I suppose it is a start as you mean to go on mentality, not a bad way to start I suppose .I tend to empty cupboards and clean out the freezer and get everything clean for the new year, make a special effort.throw away old clothes or pass them on.I am going to clean the cupboard under the stairs what a pit it is in there,no tradition just me.
