I was just wondering that whether there is a difference between HIV and AIDS or both the things mean the same.

HIV is a virus and AIDS is a syndrome that weakens your immunity so that you are not able to fight even the small infections... HIV doesn't causes any problem until it remains to be inactive... Well what made you ask this question...Is everything all right...lol...!!!

I think HIV is the virus that lives in your body in a dormant stage for a certain period of time then when it becomes active, it results to the sickness that is called AIDS.

HIV comes before the AIDS. HIV is a virus I believe, but once it turns into AIDS it is considered a disease. HIV is easier to fight and I think you can cure it, but once it turns into AIDS it is pretty much uncurable, you can just take meds to slow down the process of dying.

Cure? Cure should not even be used in the same sentence as hiv right now because no cure has been found! How dare you tell people that there is a cure when you are just hiv positive!!!!!!!! You thnk that it can be cured? Huney wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!

No need to be so harsh. We learn lots of new things here and if someone is wrong, obviously I am, then there is always someone to correct us. I just don't think you had to be so rude about it, unless I am taking you the wrong way. A simple there is no cure for HIV either would have been all that was needed to say. No one is perfect and I am sure you are not either. Is that how you would want someone to respond to you if you are incorrect about something?

HIV is you're just infected with virus, I guess. While AIDS is uncurable and you are prone to infections and complications of other diseases. WHy did you ask?

HIV is the name of the virus which causes the disease. AIDS is the disease caused by the HIV virus. This is actually not a disease. This virus slowly reduces the immunity of our body, opening door to all diseases!

Well to be simple AIDS can be equated to polio and HIV can be equated to polio virus. So AIDS is a disease/symptom which is caused by the HIV which is a virus. SO the relationship is basically a cause and effect relationship!

HIV is the virus that causes aids, but not everyone with HIV gets the disease known as AIDS

I think it's the same. HIV probably is the virus's name. And AIDS is the disease's name. I love China

Hello, from the it of research that i hae done the diference betwen hiv and aids is .....Hiv is is of course having the virus and a compromised immune system and the t-4 count is above 200. When that drops below 200 and you develop at least 3 of what they call opportunistic infections you are considered to have have full blow aids! I Think that even by taking meds and your t-4 count rises, once considered full blow you are full blow aids from that point!!

Hiv I beleave is a virus you cannot die of and can have this all your life or many years it is when it developes into Aids is when it is sadly life threatening it is one of the most awfully unfair diseases known to mankind and hope they find a cure for all of those people suffering from this.

At times it is not because of people's fault but because of others. There are many ways this thing can spread. Thanks for your response.

One of them means you have the virus and the other means it's active. I think HIV means you have it and Aids means it's active. I do know you can carry it for a long time before it activates. Hope what I said is correct. You can always look it up on the internet.

HIV is the virus that causes AIDS, while AIDS is the disease caused by HIV. In other words, AIDS is the effect or outcome of having HIV. So when you have HIV, it might take some time before you actually have AIDS. Hope this helps in clearing things up. Happy new year.
