The Peace Corps

Has anyone ever been a volunteer with the Peace Corps? What was your experience like?
I have recently become interested in maybe joining the Peace Corps. I have done a little research online, but I am interested in hearing from people who have actually done this before.
Where did you go and what did you do? Did you enjoy your experience? Do you recommend other people doing this too? Did you get paid and how long did you do it?

Hi, I am not a Peace Corp volunteer but I have worked with Peace Corps Volunteers in my former office since 1999 to 2003.
I worked with an environmental organization and I was a counterpart for the peace corps that is, I work closely with the volunteer who was assigned to my area or project.
The peace corps we had have a two year stint and one I remembered extended for another year, so she must like her work and the place 
then another volunteer from another office transfered to our office after his stint with his former office and another one asked for a transfer to our office while her term was not yet over.
I know they get a stipend and I know one who still get allowance from her Mom because the stipend was not enough. And they get to go to different parts of the country as well.
