where is the best to host a personal (blog) website? wordpress, blogspot etc.?

Hi there, I have my own blog hosted by blogger.com. And I'm thinking of having another one, but I just can't seem to weigh my options. I have talked to a friend today and she said she's making her own blog from scratch, she said she just want to make sure it'll be safe, safer than what is available online. And so that made me think, should I do mine? I know it'll be a hard work. But what can you recommend?
I'm thinking of the wordpress, but I think you need to pay for something, plus you can't put up google ads (as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong). On the other hand, blogger.com, it seem fine. Let me know what you think of, as far as your blog's security is concerned. Also, where I can find already-made blog themes or design?
Any Idea will be appreciated. Thanks!

blogger is fine for personal blogs. but if you really want to make money you have got to put it in its own domain. because people seem to trust you more if you are hosted on your own domain.
wordpress the software (not the site, wordpress.com) in my opinion is the best blogging platform. but you can also use any content management software like joomla, drupal, or cms made simple.

I use the services of the www.workathomehome.net they have a total ecomerce solution or you can ask just for the hosting plan that is less than $3.00 a month which comes with site builders, databases and lots of goodies included.
