Do you know the distinction between debts and equities in finance

I want to learn some foundation knowledge about the financial market. But still confused by some concepts. Can any one help tell some simple key distinction between debts and equities? Any more, I want join a discussion group about finance. Can anybody give me an advice?

I think the Debt & Equity you mentioned here are financial products. Equity may be some kind of stocks or shares. Debt may be company-issued stuff that proves you lend money to them, and they will repay you with interests. For instance, you lend $100 to them, and they will return you $110 1 year later. Equity return will be decided by the company's financial practice, income, and so forth. It would either be very high if the company earn a lot of money after you buy their equities, or else be negative if this company become worse. Anyway, I just have little idea about this. If you want to learn in depth, you would better get a book in this area from the library.

Debt is what you owe. Equity would be say you paid 20K for a house, but now you have paid it down to 10K and it is worth 30K you now have 10K worth of debt, but 20K of equity. If you sold the property for 30K then you would have to pay off the debt and you would still have 20K left over. Think of equity as a plus and debt as a minus. Hope this helps.
