A Malaysian warship helped Indian seamen fight off heavily armed Somalia pirates attempting to board an oil tanker. This definitely deserve a praise from the world. It was the second time a Malaysian Navy has fought off pirates in the Gulf of Aden, after it succesfully repelled a group who boarded a Chinese commercial vessel on Dec 18.Something need to be done immediately to stop the pirates as there are reported 112 cases since 2008?

South East Asia which include Malaysia had done a good job to abate piracy along Strait of Malacca, the cooperation among the littoral states had put a dent on the career of those pirates operating along that region. Trying to mess with Malaysia navy at your own risk, they are the best trained and disciplined naval forces in SEA, these stupid Somalia pirate had met their match at last, LOL!!!

I agree with you with the Malaysian Navy around , those using the sea for a living will feel save and secure form pirates.Recent news show that crime does pay where Somalia pirates have lost their life after killed by American sniper who hold an American Captain ransom.

Yes it was a wonderful joint effort by two countries, particularly so because the waters there are not very friendly. I think more such joint efforts are needed to make the Gulf of Aden safe for transportation. Just like the UN Peacekeeping Forces are sent on land to diffuse tension, a similar force in oceans need to be formulated with the help of all countries.

Back in the "good old days" we used to hang pirates. Maybe we should go back to doing that. Or at least, operate regular rapid reponse maritime patrols in the Gulf of Adem and Somali waters. These pirates are committing an act of war against the countries that the merchant ships belong to, and naval ships protecting the merchant ships should fire on them on sight.
Putting armed guards on ships passing through those waters might also be an option. Something does need to be done, because if it is not, shippers will start to route ships round the Cape of Good Hope to avoid the area. That will increase costs for everone and Egypt will also lose a lot of the revenue which it currently gets from the Suez Canal. The loss of that revenue might help to destabilise that country.

Hi Joe,
I wish things like that won't happen, what is it in this world that people have to have wars all the time, its the greed of men, too much of it and that is why I don't watch news much, these pirates should be rounded up and put away for good.
