When was the last time You wrote a LETTER & sent it by post??

letter writing - letter writing is on the face of extinction after advent of electronic communication.

In the age of telephone,e-mail & instant messages I think hardly anybody is doing it. A day was there, when letter by post was the only source of communication for someone who is far from you. Letter writing was considered an art. So it was taught in school. I remember I last wrote a letter to my brother to apologise for something bad I said to him. It was a year back. When was the last time you wrote a letter to anybody??

may her soul rest in peace...letters are special for the personal touch they carry. That thing misses in any email.don't u agree?

And the handwriting thing u mentioned regarding your grandma, that is also an effect. It feels as if the person is talking to u directly through the letter. Happy mylotting wishes for u.

Thank-you for your kindness. Yes, I do agree. Especially knowing that someone took the time to write and send the letter. Special thought just for that person. I know when I am on the computer, sending and email just is kind of, well not really thoughtless, but my mind is on other things also. Not like when I write and actual letter, I spend time thinking about special things I want to share with that person.

It has been a very long time since I have written a letter and I don't even remember who the last person I wrote to was. When I was younger I used to love to spend time writing a letter and decorating it all nice and sending it off. Me and one if my cousins used to write back and forth quite often but as we have gotten older we have mostly lost contact with each other but I remember how excited I was when I would get a letter from her. I might just have to send her one now.

I had a pen pal when I was in elementary school. I hadn't thought about them in years. It was always fun when we would get to write the letters to them in class instead of having to do work!!

Well, if sending a tiny letter + a few items counts... Than... well, I actually can't remember but it most probably was about 5 or 6 years ago. And I actually haven't sent many letters in my life. :/ But is it really a bad thing? I mean that the post is still one of the most useful things at this time and using the email instead of writing a real letter makes only sense if its easier and faster, right?

yes its easier & faster the email, but why forget something that was the only tool of the past for communication. Its not always when u want to communicate easy or fast ...right?I was focusing on the emotion associated with a letter.

Sadly, I haven't written a letter in a few years and I miss writing letters. Can you believe that some of the post offices in Bangalore do not even stock up on stamps because no one sends any letters? But being a kindergarten teacher, I took my kids to the post office two months back and made them write little notes to their parents on postcards and made them post it. They were a happy lot when the cards reached home. We also got them to make little christmas and new year cards and we posted them. Hopefully, they would have recieved that too and will be all ready to tell me about it tomorrow when school reopens after the holidays.

I try to write at least two letters per week because I have two penpals in different states. In addition to that, I like staying connected to the "writer" in me by putting pen to paper. While I write everyday for work, and I write everyday in my paper journal . . . there's something about letter writing that is different that sets it apart from any other kind of writing. Plus, I love receiving mail that isn't bills or junk mail. There's at least twice per week I can count on that niceness in the mailbox!

Its so nice to hear that you still have penpals. & I am more surprised that you write them every week. Actually in the era of telephone & internet nobody is having a penpal in strict sense. But its a wonderful experience to write letters, you would definitely agree. Thank you for responding. have a nice time in mylot.

I have done this several times over the last year. I only ever write to my girl but she loves it. For some reason there is something a lot more personal about a letter than an email. Maybe its just the fact that it takes a little longer to do, takes effort to get the stuff and post it and so shows that you have appreciation that the person you are writing to is special to you.

Well if I can count Christmas Cards then I'm good to go! LOL Actually writing a letter? I couldn't tell you the last time I did. I have a friend several states away that we used to communicate by snail mail but now we use our computers and telephones so we rarely write unless it is just a Birthday or Christmas or something we may send a card with anote written in it. Ahhh modern technology isn't it great? LOL

Snail Mail is regular postal mail. Named "snail mail" because of how slow it is in comparison to internet, phone etc.

It's been so long since I've written an actual letter and sent it through the mail. It's so much faster an convenient to write to people online through social networking sites. I did write on the card I sent my dad in November for his birthday because I wasn't in town on the actual day.

I wrote letters and greeting cards 2 weeks ago. They were New Year Eve`s greeting cards to my friends in Germany, Spain and Romania. This is the only time during a year when I send greeting cards (or something) by post. And receive something by post. But I enjoy and like that very much. It is more personal and warm: to receive such hand-written letters. About apologize letters...Have not received one nor sent one. But would not mind to use this type of communication somewhere in the future: if necessary, because there are some things that You can not send and appologize through web and email or messangers, and are too hard to say right in the eyes.

I think it was last month, as a thank you for sending me a cookbook. I can also do that easily with email. :D As far as writing a letter that is more than a paragraph, I haven't writing one since elementary school, penpals. I only email people and my email are usually long paragraphs. Telecommunication has help advance us in the communication field where we don't use snail mail anymore.

Its been going to be years since the last time i wrote a letter and it was in 2004 to my dad regarding some personal matters. Technology is killing it and when ever i pick up a pen i find it difficult to write smoothly like before. My friends used to tell me that i have a good handwriting but not any more i guess. There are some juniors of mine who have a very bad handwriting and i blame it on the technology because everything have pros and cons and the art of writing is killed. Anyway wishing you a very happy new year.

Well, to be honest, I can't remember that. It's been a very long time ago that I wrote a letter to someone because everything goes through mail and telephone... Sending a mail, or calling someone is much faster...

hi! i never thought of this idea. with the technology nowadays, all are online, emails, bank transactions, voice chat and cellphone. so i guess the only reason why we will be using snail mails is if the recipient does not have the technology. so far based on my experience the last time i wrote letter and posted it via snail was when i was in high school that was 15 years ago. most of my communication to friends and relatives are online or via email or sometimes chat. nice discussion. you deserve a positive mark.

I think that was 1996-97 way back when I was in highschool. I wrote a letter to afriend who was away from us because he studied in his mom's place. I sent letter to him through post mail because there was no celfones yet, no text, no emails, no pagers but only letters to mail. it's no good to when receiving letters by mail because your excited what's inside of it from the sender.
