SMS spelling: should it be used in discussion boards?

ur, u or y instead of you are, you and why.i'd say they are best used when you have space limitations and you'd like to say a lot while maximizing space. if ample space is given, why resort to such shortcuts. i'd say SMS spellings make a lot of people bad spellers. what do you think?

I don't even like to use these abbreviated words in SMS messages, personally. But then, I'm a stickler. It is both annoying and also causes the person writing the "i c u l8r" crud to look like a fool. Three letter words aren't exactly difficult to type. Might as well use Orwellian terms like "ungood".
