Hi Gagan, when I first wore contact lenses, I had the same worries as you. I told my eye specialist, and he advised me to take good care of the lenses, keep them clean, and make sure your hands are clean when handling them. Till today, my eyes are fine!

It depends on the wearer. I used to wear contacts when I was in college. They were the extended lens kind. I wasn't really warned by the eye doctor what could happen if I leave it on for a few days but the instructions on the package say you can wear it for as long as one week.
Being busy with classes, I often fall asleep with my contacts on and would just put eyedrops in the morning to moisten my eyes.
A few years later, I had piercing pain in my eyes and it would only go away when I take the contacts out. When I went to the eye doctor, he said I have dented corneas and can't wear contacts anymore. So I'm now wearing eye glasses and developed astigmatism to boot.
If you're planning on wearing contacts, just make sure you take them out every night and clean them thoroughly every time before putting them on again in the morning.

it isn't very dangerous nor harmful and neither is it 100% safe.
I would say it's up to individual and for you to exercise care.
The reason why i'd rather wear glasses than contacts IS because.. my grandauntie had her cornea cut by her contacts & somehow her tear duct got implicated. I was really young to understand and my mum was extremely vague in her explanation too. Anyway, from that day onwards, my grandaunt had to live on eyedrops. Her eyes couldn't produce moisture for her eyes by itself and she had to constantly drip her eyes.
Well, like i said it isn't always 100% that way. I've seen many who wears contacts and nothing has happened to them. I have no idea how my grandaunt cut her cornea (i think), but well that's probably one in a million.
Another, a classmate of mine, had half her contacts in her eye for about 3 days. We were all in class busy mugging for our 'o' level maths paper. Suddenly, she gasped and went.."shiat.. half my contacts is out.. where is the other half??"
well, thank god for her nothing happened, and 3 days later whilst doing our homework, her other half contacts dropped out. it was hilarious but really dangerous in my point of view.
