Hey all of you MyLotters from the UK, and those who might be knowledgeable about American citizens traveling to the UK. I have a friend who recently went to the UK, and was robbed of everything and is now stranded there. He has no idea where to go for help, or how to get there. Does anyone have any suggestions about what he can do since the Embassey is closed on the week-ends? Thanks for any imput!

Go to the Police. They will have phone numbers of agencies that will help. The church will also help or know of someone who will help.
If they are in Essex they can come and stay with me. We have an open house and visitors from the US are especially welcome.
Eventually, the US Embassy in London will help I'm sure.

Thank you for responding. He does have limited access to email, but apparently having issues with the phones where he is. I am not completely clear on all of the details. I have emailed him to find out his exact location. I told him about the embassey. I think this is his first trip to the UK and he is confused, frightened, etc, and not thinking properly. I don't know if he has any idea how to get anywhere around the city. Personally, if I was in that position, I would ask someone directions to the nearest police station, and the embassey and start walking. After I get his location etc. I may ask further assistance of you.
Thanks!

I read below he is a pastor and is in an hotel.
Tell him to go down to the front desk and get the clerk to pull out the telephone directory and phone the local vicarage or bishop.
I have just looked in my phone book and there is my vicar and bishop but they will not be of much use if your friend is not local to me.
The church will help.

He could make a reverse the charges phone call from a phone box to his family in the USA. They could send him some money through Western Union for example. Does he have travel insurance? If so he could go to a library and use a computer to look up the travel insurance details and email the travel insurance company. On Monday he could visit the American Embassy. Good luck to your unfortunate friend.

Thanks for responding! I do not know all of the exact details, whether he has travel insurance, can call family, etc. I recieved a desperate email stating that he was robbed of everything (I am assuming passport and all)there is some issue with the phones where he is, and he needs help. I suggested the embassy but they are closed on the weekend. There are emergancy contact numbers, but I am not sure what they can do at present. I do not know if he will be able to stay in his hotel without money, credit cards, and the like, so I think he will be needing to do something asap. Unfortunately, he is an older gent (pastor no less) and is probably quite scared.
Thanks for responding!
