Let Their Be Light.

When I get up in the mornings I open my curtains and my mini blinds, I love for the light to come into the house. If it is a beautiful sunny day I will open the doors too. I don't like a dark house in the daytime. When the sun starts to go down I make sure I close all my blinds and doors,I don't like my house to be open at night.
I have neighbors that hardly ever open their blinds, curtains or front door. It is always dark in their houses and they have to use the lights to see even in the day time.
Do you open up your house in the day time, (doors, curtains, blinds)?

I like to see out my back door, from my kitchen as I am often in there. If I am in the front room, I am at the computer room. Middle room south facing windows, with light curtains. That is where the tv is, and we usually have a light on with it.

Curtains open, front door closed. Back door open. I do not like people on the street to be looking in. I have lots of open windows upstairs though, since people cannot see in directly.

When I wake up in the morning, I am always in a hurry to get dressed and therefore I don't open any blinds or windows. However I always open the windows for air to circulate. It is a good way to combat mould and to avoid airborne infections. I do close them before we go to bed.

During most of the year we love to have the shades up during the day to enjoy the bright sunlight. Not only is that more cheerful, it also saves on the electric bill sine there's no need to turn the lights on until the sun goes down. And of course it's nice to open the windows as well to let in fresh air.
But right now, in the midst of winter in New England, we tend to keep the shades down even during the day to keep in a little more heat. Our apartment doesn't get direct sunshine except very late afternoon, so having the shades up wouldn't get us any solar heat. Hopefully we'll get a few mild days this winter when we'll be able to put the shades up.

You bet I do! lol When I first married my husband 17 years ago, he was forever closing the windows and curtains and I did the opposite which caused us to fuss at each other. It's because it was how he was raised, with all windows, blinds abd curtains closed and I was raised with them all opened. It was a battle but I finally won and now we have them opened during the day and closed at night. When the weather happens to be decent, I'll open the windows so we can get some nice fresh air inside. I hate a closed house especially windows because I feel like a caged bird and when they're opened, I feel like I can fly!! lol Silly isn't it?

My habit is a little strange, I admit. Everything on the front side of the house is closed up tight, just aobut all the time, but everything else is open until after dark each day. I don't really know why I do this, but I sometimes let the doorbell go unanswered, and nobody knows I'm home. One of the things I'm working on is being less of a hermit, but that's hard for me. I use up all my social skills by teaching all day, and I really like to be hiome when I'm home, often with no interruptions. My house is very big, so leaving the front closed up doesn't prevent everything from being aired out. Still, I'm hoping to get past all that by spring!

Hi Chevee. I hate a dark house during the day. We used to have a house that had dark paneling throughout the house - it was an older double wide. We had to have the lights on all day even with the curtains and blinds open. But the house we have now is nice a light during the day so we don't need lights on and I like it that way. I have blinds that I close at night.

I use sunlight to light the house during the day. I hate having a dark house and using lights during the day when sunlight is free. Electricity is not free. Sunlight seems like the better option. I don't like having the windows open at night at home either. I don't like the fact that people going by can so easily see inside the house. I make sure to shut everything up when it starts to get dark. It makes me feel more comfortable.

Our cats tore the living room curtains down and so far we haven't replaced them, so if there's sunshine it comes through. I like the sun coming in, but there are times, particularly in the winter because of how the sun moves during those months, that our living room gets almost hot.

If it is sunny outside I will open all the blinds and if there is a cool breeze I like to open my windows and let the fresh air in. I can't stand to sit in a dark house it kinda makes me tired and not really want to do anything. So even if it is raining outside I will go around and turn a bunch of lights on so that I don't have to sit in the dark.
