Got a Coffee Grinder, but love Tim Horton's coffee

All right I suppose it is a state secret or national secret but since we got a coffee grinder for Christmas, I would like to find if one can get a whole bean package of Tim Horton's coffee so I can grind it myself. We did get a package from Second Cup of Coffee, a Costa Rica brand, but from what I know, Tim Horton's is part Arabica beans. I do not want to get the Nabob brand -always hated it and I would not mind what is the equivalent store brand for either Tim Horton's or Maxwell House. We shop at Superstore, the Bulk Food Store, and Safeway.
There are also a couple of coffee houses in our local mall.

Maxwell House is the only kind my husband will use. But a coffee grinder comes in handy for other things. I heard one person used it to grind uncooked pinto beans so they could make refried beans or bean dip faster since it took less time to cook. I haven't tried that since I don't own a coffee grinder. Our store has a place we can either get coffee beans whole or grind then right at store but I haven't tried that either. I have thought of trying that though..but my husband likes his instant coffee and since I don't drink but maybe one cup a day if that sometimes I don't buy the other kinds anymore.

We have two coffee grinders. One I bought myself to grind seeds in, the other was a present. I did try to find out what Tim Horton's Secret blend of beans are, but like the Bush Bean Company, they aint telling and they do not have a dog to blab the secret to us Tim Horton fans.

Well it wouldn't be so famous if they told their secrets and everyone would be making their own instead of buying theirs..lol I guess it is best to just mix and try as you go along till you find the right mix for you.

Could you buy a tin of Tim Horton's coarse grind and grind it again in your coffee grinder? I know it is not the same as grinding whole beans but you would still get a fresh flavour. I love Timmy's coffee as well and I buy the tins of fine grind to use in my coffee maker. I find Star Bucks coffee too strong, not to my taste at all.

I could but that would be taken the fun out of it. I do not like Star Buck's coffee either.

I have not tasted Folgers, but I heard it is almost as good as Tim Horton's. Now if I can find the beans they use.

We use the fine grind. WE can get the coffee at Superstore now, but it would be wonderful if we could grind it ourselves. I guess the only thing to do when we run out of coffee is to buy a batch of beans from the Bulk Store or a Coffee shop until we get it right.

I know here where I live, Canada, I can buy Tim Horton coffee right in the stores. I can
either just go to TiM Hortons to buy it or I can buy it right from the grocery
store. Safeway and Superstore both sell it here in their stores. But it is so expensive.
It costs about twice as much for their coffee as it does for regular coffees. I have
bought it before and it doesn't taste the same as you get from Tim Hortons.
I even know a lot of people who have their coffee machine too and still the coffee
isn't as good as buying it from Tim Hortons. So I don't buy it from the stores anymore
and I just buy coffee beans and grind them myself. It is a lot cheaper this way and
just as good.
Good luck finding it in your stores and hope you like it as much as from the restaurant.
Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend,
Have a good mylotting day, Chris

I looked to find out Tim Horton's secret formula but they aren't telling. We also are very fussy coffee drinkers, at least my husband is. Usually we go to Tim Hortons' but now they sell it at Superstore. It is too bad they do not have "WHOLE BEAN Tim horton style" in the stores yet.

My friend is working at Tim Horton's coffee shop and she said that it is the most famous coffee shop in Canada. After reading your post I wonder which taste better, the Starbucks Coffee here or the Tim Horton's Coffee there.

Tim Horton's coffee is much better by far. Starbucks is a bit too strong for me.

Tim Hortons has good coffee! I love it! However, there are other good brands, too. I don't drink Tim Hortons cos their store isn't too close to my house. But I do drink it from time to time. You could always buy whole bean of another brand, or perhaps talk to a store manager or their corporate office to ask if you can buy some of the whole beans. They may be able to work with you, right?
In my city (in USA) we don't have those supermarkets, but I know we have Safeway in USA just not in my city. Take care pal!

Tim Horton's does not offer whole bean coffee to it's public clients, but if you know a manager or a chain owner you may be able to buy a bag from them at just above cost. I've found that a full flavor Folger's coffee (whole bean) is just as good or better (fresher) then any coffee house coffee. Just a small reminder, don't ever put your fresh beans in any type of cold storage (fridge or freezer), as this will only serve to break down precious oils. Also, most real good (common) coffees, are 100% aribica beans (columbian or otherwise). Good drinking!!!

I was thinking what whole bean coffee I can pick up in Superstore or in the coffee places that is the same formula that Tim Horton makes. I know it is not the Canadian brand offered in Superstore. That is more like Nabob's. Thanks for telling me about not putting the beans in the fridge. And the hint about aribica beans. I guess I will have to buy a batch at a time and try it out until I find the right one.

Time to discover coffee roasters! Go for freshly roasted fair trade and organic coffee. Not sure which city you live in, but I'm sure you'll find one near by, or you can order on line. Here are some in Ontario:
- Cameron's
- Island Coffee
- Baden Coffee (Waterloo)
- Old Rock (even in Sudbury - try the Great Outdoors)
