i want to write a short story or maybe a novel about romantic love ,however ,i have never been in love before. i have had some infactuations, but think that is something completely different. i have some ideas about love, but i am afraid they might be by products of what i have read in books or watched in movies

Hi GAGAN187
yes, you may able to write romantic novel however u never experience love. you can express whats on your mind thru your novel.
Once you fall in love, try to apply it with your someone special.

i believe that writers are inspired by their own experiences.
yes, you may be able to write a novel about love even if you haven't been in love yet, but it will always lack substance because the way you would be delivering the words and sentences are not truthful, even you yourself would not be convinced of the words you have written.
but let not this comment hinder you from writing. just write and write, especially the things that you have in mind. but don't force yourself to like or love someone just because you need to experience being in love. it will come naturally, like writing, you can always create a character and a scenario the way you wanted it to be.
good luck, my friend.

It may be true that other forms of media will influence your perception of romance. But, I don't think having not been in love means you can't write a romance novel. Romance is whatever you want it to be. People can either relate to it, wish they had it, or not really be interested in it. Hopefully, they will be intrigued in some way by your perception though =] Any infatuations count though. Romance could have happened as a result. You can make your own fantasy or perhaps create a different path or ending in regard to your experience. It's whatever YOU create that intrigues readers. Something new would be nice even if it was a setting in an alternate universe =]
