DVD rom reads cd but does not read DVD,showing blank?

Hi i have a problem with dvd rom of sony...it reads cd very easily but it does not read dvds...it does not recognize it,showing blanks..i tried many thing like registry hacking,patching,installing uninstalling driver.....rebooting operating system...nothing helps....please help... thank you...

HI gamer.It happens sometimes.Sony dvd will detects only some types of dvds. Me too got the same problem but when i used some other dvd it detect and that dvd was detected in other system .

thanks spring...but i have some important information in those dvds....if they are not detected then...is there any patch or fixing things exist..because i really need to play dvds....

well how do u know thats its a dvd-rom and not a cd-rom if it hasn't read a dvd? i think you should take it to your vendor and get it checked.

It's all about the hardware. No software tricks will work to fix it. One of my friend faces such problem with couple of DVDs .He got SONY too.

make sure that your ROM is a DVD ROM and not just a CD rom

try sending the dvd rom to the manufacturer and make saome replacement of the product, because your dvd rom does'nt read dvd disk..

If your DVD-Rom is DVD-Writer, sometime DVD-Writer can't read DVD. You can try cleaning your DVD and the DVD-Rom. Will be better if you have DVD-Rom and DVD-Writer. What is your DVD-Rom type and model?
