I just recently bought this product for my dog. However, my dog is a bit skiddish around the little sound that it makes when you turn it on. She is a big dog, and it is hard to hold on to her. Does any one else have this product, and any help on how to make her comfortable to be able to use this product. I really think she would be alright once I was able to do her nails once. Thanks

Hi
No I'm sorry I don't have the Pedipaws but I have more than once wanted to buy it. I have five dogs and it about makes me cry when I see the commercial on TV about clipping a dogs nails. It looks like it would be much better for them and not hurt at all. I'm not sure how my dogs would react with the sound so I am anxious to see the comments people have with it.
Thanks for starting the discussion!
Happy MyLotting!
Char

Yeah i saw the commercial and that is why i wanted to get it. I think another reason that she is skiddish about it is that once when we did take her to get her nails done, the did go to far with one of them and did hurt her. I hope that she can get use to the pedipaws.

I have no idea. We thought about buying one to do our cats nails. We decided against it and bought just the nail clippers that look like scissors. Our cat had no problem, although the pet store told us they would do it for 5 dollars if we did have problems. Good luck to you.

You know, I've been wondering about those Pedipaw things. My German Shepherd is a huge one, and cutting her nails has always been hard because she hates it so much. It's hard getting animals used to the sounds of something new. I know my horse hated the sound of electric clippers, so what I did was to hold it around her (with it running) for quite a few times/days before I ever used it on her. I think it's the same with all animals, once they get used to the noise, and then get used to the small vibration on their skin, it'll be ok. When I do my shepherd's nails the usual way, somebody passed along a trick that helped me, and that is to have them on a leash with somebody else holding it. You hold their head up higher than normal (not choking, but just so their neck is extended up) and they don't usually move. (This came from a pet groomer) It works with my shepherd. Gee, I'm really looking forwards to reading what others have to say about this Pedipaw thingie, it seems like it'd be a lot easier and safer to use. BTW...(belated) happy new year beckyomg!

Im hoping once she gets use to the noise that i will be able to use it with no problems. I have tried just turning it on and touching it against her a little bit at a time but once i get near her feet she jumps back. Hopefully it wont take too long for her to get use to it.

Hey beckyomg1, long time :) -- My husband and I are interested in getting one for our dog's nail. We just haven't gotten around to ordering it. My dog is quite skittish too, so I am interested how you make out with yours. If it really works it will be a great relief, I hate cutting her nails I am always so concerned I will cut to short and get that nail nerve and hurt her. So although I haven't tried it, I would love to know how it works for you. Happy Posting, be happy, be joyful, be strong - oohcute2340

My son bought me one of these as a Christmas present. I have two Maltese dogs. I haven't tried it yet but I'm not expecting a great reception because neither of my dogs likes any kind of electric motor sound anywhere near them!
I read the link provided by Debs_Place and was aghast and appalled by the reviews of the company selling these things! They are absolutely, 100% unethical and some of what they are doing is even illegal! I have no doubt that they will be out of business soon as the complaints come pouring in.
I'm just thankful that my son bought this one at WalMart, where it can go back for an instant refund if it doesn't work.
I do plan to start slowly, though, when I do try it. I will show it to my girls and give them a treat. Then, touch it to their paw, giving them another treat. Then, let them hear it, another treat. Touch one claw, another treat. Hopefully, they'll get so spoiled by knowing that whenever they see this contraption, they'll get excited about receiving another treat and I'll eventually be able to trim their nails.

I think it's one of those things where dogs have to get used to it for a while before they are comfortable. It is easier to teach them these things as puppies I think. My parents ride my dads Harley with their dog! She is small, around 10 pounds, and fits into a bag (with her head sticking out) that my mom holds. It's pretty cute to see a dog on a motorcycle.

I have no experience with this product but have been curious about it. i am looking forward to all the answers you get. My dog is horrible at getting his nails cut. I get scared because he now growls and nips (which he never did before) he's getting there in age and has been less patient than he used to be so I thought maybe these would be perfect for him, but now I dont know. He wont even let me trim the fur around his nails with the electric trimmers or even scissors any more.
