I just made some of this yesterday. I made it in the crockpot. It was a recipe that i adjusted from someone else recipe. I make it with tomato soup and then add a bunch of diced tomatos, paste, onions, and other stuff. I mix the venision with a pepper and onion sausage. I think that it taste half not bad. I dont think that anyone would know that it was venision if I didnt tell them. Do you like to cook with venision? and if so have any different ways that you cook it.

I have not cooked with it yet. My hubby is a hunter but he can never seem to get anything during hunting season on public lands and he does not want to travel too far away from me and the kids. I have a friend who's dad has some land several hrs away and always has bagged enough for a few families however, we haven't gotten any from them or anyone else who goes hunting :(
Otherwise I'd love to try making all sorts of things with it. I think it depends on the person and how you have the meat processed I've been told.

Yea sometimes it is how it is processed on how it will taste. I know a few years ago we had someone else process it and they did not cut it right and it tasted realy gamey. I only like it in a few certain things. Sometimes its an aquired taste.

Never thought about sticking it in chili, will have to try that. I usually make stew from it, or use it ground up, half and half, with regular beef hamburg in recipes. My family will eat it, but only if I don't mention it's in there...kind of a 'don't ask...won't tell' policy hahaha. My girls used to call it 'bambi burger', as in "I ain't eatin' any bambi burger.' Now that they're adults they don't mind, but I still don't mention if it's in there. I have lots of deer hunters on the farm, and most of them give me gifts of venison here and there. Will definitely try it in chili, that version sounds good!

i was fortunate enought toget a deer to go in my freezer. i made lasagna for christmas eve dinner w/it & if they could tell any differnce in it u couldn't tell from how much they ate. i didn't say aword about using deer burger instead of hamburger because they would have refused to eat it. sometimes what your "grown" kids don't know don't hurt them. lol
