How fast do you eat?

My wife keeps cribbing that she sweats out for hours in the kitchen preparing a meal and when we sit on the table, we hardly take 5 minutes to finish the meal. It is not just taking 5 minutes to finish the meal, but it is bad for digestion as well. If we chew the food properly and take our time in eating it instead of just swallowing mouth fools of food in a hurry, we will be doing our stomachs a great service. imagine the food in the stomach which has not bee chewed properly. What a difficult task the stomach has to perform. It has to break up the food and then mix it with the juices and then assimilate the nutrients in the body. A lot of food goes waste in an un digested form. If we chew the food to a nice paste, it will become so much easier for the stomach to digest it.

I can't tell you how hard it is for me to eat slowly. I have tried a number of times and I know it is unhealthy to just gulp down the food but I feel like I am wasting precious time that could be spent doing something else. Everyone from my mother to my relatives eat in 5 minutes or less. That is probably why I am like that.

I could eat within five minutes if I wanted to but, as you have stated, eating fast often makes us chew less and that is really not good for our stomach.. Especially when there is lots of food and they are all delicious, I seem to eat much and more.. then again, I can't always consciously think to chew well.. then again, even when I eat so much, I don't get fat at all.. a classmate of mine mentioned that it was due to my metabolism which is why I still don't gain weight after eating a lot..

I seem to take my time when I eat but I have noticed that my husband eats very fast!!! And usually complains about his stomach afterward to prove it. He said his Grandfather was a VERY fast eater and that he got it from him but I am not sure if fast eating is hereditary?

I try to eat slower but i can be a really fast eater. To feel full after a meal eat it slow and avoid gaining weight. But i do think that after a person had painstakingly cooked a meal and we eat it too quickly the effort seems to have gone to waste a little bit. Tell your wife that her cooking is good and maybe thank her for her efforts. This might help to offset your habit of eating fast :P

I'm a super slow eater and eating your food slowly also helps you to lose weight as you realize you aren't hungry anymore faster and stop eating sooner, so you eat less food while still filling your stomach.

Hmmm... I eat really slowly. I enjoy taking my time to eat and enjoy the food rather than chomping the food down. I'll also feel really uncomfortable if I eat too fast. I guess it's all about habit.

Eating should be slow and steady for the good of health.why should we eat in hurry.otherwise it may hurt your stomach. For good digestion eating is adviseable to chew every bite you eat, nicely so your stomach received nicely chewed whtever you eat.For the ease of digestion process, nicely chewed food material will helps alot.

I eat very slowly. I am usually the last to leave the kitchen table. It's not because I chew slowly, I just talk a lot. I talk to everyone when I'm eating so it takes me forever to finish my meal. And I get a lot of food to start with, so I always have a lot of food to eat and finish. hehe.

You are right my friend. Let me admit that I eat fast despite knowing all the facts you have mentioned. I just can't help it. You see, there are things we unwillingly do even if we know it is harmful. I eat fast food faster than general food.

Eating food - Just imagine how will it look if "eating" is written in red and back color as the background
If we did not chew the food properly it will give the shomach extra task to perfom. This is not a good habit if we are in hurry for one or two days it is ok but if is repeats it is not good for our digestive system. My wife also says the same to me but i never had time to chew the food properly because i was eating food like this for many years and now it is very difficult for me to change it

I depends on the time of a food.Mornings we usually eat fast and go to work.Lunch also eating without so much interest. Dinner is the best time to eat slowly by Watching TV,chatting, commenting each other. That time also my hubby eats so fast. He eats big big pieces. I used to tell the same digestion process to him.

It depends. If i'm eating with my whole family, well it takes time to finish our meal coz we often talk and share stuffs. But if i'm alone, it wouldn't last 10 minutes and I'm done. Mostly if the food is my favorite. If there's an emergency call or text messages on my phone, I'll finish it like there's no tomorrow. lol

Yes, you are right. It is really important to spend more time and take our time when we eat. But sad to note that because of our tight schedule, most often we have to hurry up most especially in the morning. I admit I am guilty of these. Digestion starts at the mouth. That is what my health teacher told us when I was in grade school. So hopefully we could spend more time to appreciate our food.

I think your should be happy that the meal is so good that you can not resist it. According to me, you should take around 10-15 minutes to complete your meals. I try and eat slowly slowly giving full time for the food to chew and later get digested properly.

I am a very slow eater. Perhaps i have made myself like that from childhood. I chew it properly and will take upto 15-30mins sometimes to complete the meal. I do keep something with me to read while eating. I don't know i am doing the correct thing or not but i am not getting in digestion problems easily :)

now i do not eat fast. But i ate fast in my childhood because my mother's dish was so delicious and i cannot help eating fast in order to taste more.another reason is that my father and little brother were also shareing mum's wonderful dish.We also eat fast. However i grow up and cook myself and there are just a few times i can enjoy like what i had in my youngster years. Just too fast is not good for our stomach and give it more pressure to digest the food.So it is best to chew more slowly and enjoy all the flavor.

I used to eat too fast, chewed the food well seldom. It was too late when i found that my stomach was ill.And i spent much time to save it.It was painful and intolerable.Though the stomach of mine is not strong enough now,i have changed the way to eat already.
