My company is giving us two month maternity leave, that means I will get two month resting at home after giving birth.
How about your company? How many month maternity leave do you have? I have heard some countries actually give 4 month maternity leave, that's really good.

Here in canada.. land of the free.. lol, We get a year to spend with our new babies. . if you worked 600hours prior to birth, then you get a percentage of your earnings.. i think its roughly 55% of your earnings for an entire year. . I never ended up going back to my job after me maternity leave ended. . I couldnt leave my babies with someone else.. i wanted babies so i could raise them.. why let someone else ?

Hi there, thanks for your response.
It's really good that you can have a year to spend with your new born babies. Yeah, I think it's really hard to leave your baby with someone else, but sometimes we have not much choice. I really don't mind to work harder before giving birth, so that I can spend more time with my baby.

Hello my friend kaka135 Ji,
As far as I am personally concerned, I do not expect any type of such leaves, however, when my last Grand-child was born, my DIL had 3 months, in addition to 3 months un-paid maternity leave. Sometimes, back, there was going to be Bill in our parliament to extend 6 months maternity leaves to such working women. My elder DIL, who is a house wife, her husband is a Govt. servant and he may get a fort-night such leave. I personally think, all such cases to be given 3 months such leave by all concerned (A case may be taken up world body), then 3 months un-paid leave and if desired upto 3 yrs after birth of child an option opened to serve as per their requirements, so that a child could be well taken care-off at Toddlar's age. may god bless and have a great time.

Hi there, thanks for your response.
I think it's good to have more leave, so that we can take care and spend more time with the baby. But this will not be good for the companies.
Over there, you will get 14 day for paternity leave too? That's good. My husband only get one day, I don't think it's enough, as he needs to take care of me when I deliver and also the next day when I discharge from the hospital.

Well, not much! Around three months, but without salary. The employee is also requested to appoint a substitute and pay salary to the substitute. Doesn't that sound tough?
Cheers and happy Mylotting

Three months without salary, and you are paying your salary to your substitute, so he'll get double salary? Well, this is the first time I heard about this. So, that's not a benefit for women in your company, right? It's like taking unpaid leave. But, can you go back to work before 3 months?

Not double salary. The pregnant person is to pay the substitute, the person who is to work in her absence. :) Yes, the pregnant woman has the option to continue working throughout pregnancy. Some company policies are more friendly though. This isn't a hard and fast rule. The government of India, for instance, offers three months paid leave to the pregnant women. However, the government of India doesn't have that many jobs too.
Cheers and happy Mylotting

Here in Kenya there is a law for private companies to give employee 3 months maternity leave and public/government give its workers 4 months leave and they forfeit their annual leave. I work in a private company so I have 3 good months to be with baby and get monthly salary plus my annual 24 days leave. But you can not take annual leave together with maternity leave.

Hi there, thanks for your response.
It's pretty good to have 3 or 4 months for maternity leave. It's also good that you still have your 24 day annual leave. I heard that in my company, we can actually apply for extended maternity leave, perhaps that's to deduct from our annual leaves, I am not sure.

When I has my daughter, I could have gotten 3 months, but I took 6 weeks because we didn't have to money for me to stay home that long.
With my son, I was able to take longer because I had quit work way before he was born. I went back to work when he was about 4 months old.

There is a law in our country which gives a two-month maternity leave. . . How I wish it will be made to 4 months so all the married women will enjoy with their babies.
