What cause of stroke?

I just heard from a neighbor this morning that one of our councilor,who happened a friend, here died last night, for a severe stroke. Some just said that it is because of eating too much during the celebration of holiday, and they also said that if he just drink hard maybe it can be avoided? Why? What is the connection of having a stroke and drinking hard ?

My simple explanation; Once got 'stroke' the body is no longer can sustain high blood pressure. So, drinking too much(excessive) of liiquor or some sorts to it or heavy smoking activity prone to uncontrollable high blood pressure. Once over the limit.....what else?.....dooooom!!!
