I am longing for writing better. But I always don't know how I can improve my writing skills by writing skills on my own. I kept writing, but there is no one to give me any comment about my writing. How can I know if I am moving on or just stuck?

Hi! Some suggestions: 1. Subscribe to writing newsletters where there are lots of tips and techniques shared and enroll in online writing workshops like those found in Writers' Digest. 2. Read a wide variety of book (plus magazines and newspapers) and study how the authors construct sentences or create dialogues. 3. Join writing sites as some members here have already suggested. Helium is a good place to start because you'll know you're improving when members' ratings on your works are going higher. 4. Maintain a blog, if you haven't already. Writing a little something at least once a day will help hone your skills more. 5. Browse other writing sites for more tips and tricks.

you're welcome! it's never too late to start. you know, there are great writers out there who came out with their published books when they were already old. one of my favorite authors, erma bombeck, had her start on book writing when she was already in her late '30s (i think) if i recall correctly :)

If you join a writing site like Helium or Triond, your articles or stories will be rated, voted for, and commented on by other members. Since joining Helium I have not only improved my writing skills, I have learned enough to become a paid writer with an ongoing income from my writing.

I have joined a writing community where I post what I write and I get feedback from them on whether or not it is good or need improvements. Everyone there is so nice and means well when they talk about what needs worked on. I have improved my writing a great deal from it and have tried to write new things because of the support of writing.com

Read a lot, look at how people form sentences and so on. If possible, find someone who would be willing to edit/proofread your writing and provide feedback: this is absolutely the best way to learn (assuming they are good at it). It's like a teacher - they correct things so you can learn. A lot of online sites have forums where people will help a little (Helium, AC and so on). Good luck!

The best way to improve on your writing skills is to write and write often. Any forum, myLot posting, e-mail, or discussion board that you can post to...just do it! But with that comes making sure that you have a spell checker automatically downloaded onto your web browser. It will underline any misspellings and grammatical errors it can find. You will find that there are several words that you consistently spell wrong. Focus on trying to use those words most often, and see if you can spell it correctly without the spell checker underlining it for you. I also recommend improving upon your vocabulary by making a place to post a word of the week, day,or month, whatever is easiest for you. In this area include the word (big and bold) the pronunciation (this way you can remember how to say it), a picture to best associate your memory to the word and or its definition, and of course its definition. Try using that word in any conversation that you can for its particular time frame. Next, make a myLot posting of the word or start your own blog of the word so that you have to write it. Try and incorporate that word and any other prior word into all of your writing any time that you can. Sooner or later you will find that word every where you look. Learning has a funny way of sneaking up on you. Who knows, it might even be the one of the Jeopardy answers...LOL. Plus you have to read. Find interesting things to read and comment on. This will work on your comprehension skills and grammatical skills. Again use the spell checker to find words that you often spell incorrectly. I need someone to read my blogs and make some comments. If you want, you can private message me or look on my profile for the list of my blogs. I don't think it is myLot etiquette to post my blog links in comments. I'm still learning on here too! SO please read my blogs and and make comments. Think of it as a learning tool. Don't be afraid! Just do it, that's how writers become better. If you have any hesitations than you can private message me and I can edit it before you post it. Think of me as your own private tutor. Happy myLotting and good luck on all of you writing endeavors.

What about taking classes? Or what about producing content (and earning from them?) I think it's good for you that you're trying to improve you writing skills. Based on my experience reading and writing a lot helps :D of course there's no substitute for a good critique, but it's rare to find someone willing to do the job for free. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I think we have the same problem but maybe I can help you, I'm not professional in any grammar but I accept its important but the thing I think is that You must have a story to tell that is the one I think that we should develop our creativity, create a story or make a character then make a description, event, moments, and scenario that make it much more interesting, I'll invite you to a site called Yuwie which make you more sociable and post a blog there if you like too here is my referral http://r.yuwie.com/laisbonita/
