But I'm still really happy about it! :D I just posted a "novel excerpt" on Helium yesterday...when it was first posted it started out as 87/170...I checked it today, expecting some kind of small change...and imagine my surprise when in just 1 day my excerpt had moved up to 8/170!!! :D That made me smile, a lot!
If you'd like to read it for yourself, please do! I'd appreciate any feedback to make it EVEN better!

Very nice. I'm 9/87 under Magical Fantasy myself. I don't mind taking a look at all and would appreciate your reading mine too.

First quick impression. The sentences seemed a bit choppy. Make them flow better. Too much telling and not enough showing. You want to make your reader feel like he is living the scene. All in all a good start with room for improvement. Work on your hook because that's what get the reader's interest.

Man I just went back to your profile to look at more articles and you're kind of intimidating! lol. I feel like I shouldn't try to give you any advice on your articles, you've had a lot more success on helium then me!! :D Congrats on that.

Thank you for the suggestion. Sometimes a different eye looking at our work is a good thing! Bean Sidhe is a stoat (when she isn't something else), which is explained in another part of the novel. Always Bean Sidhe, never just Bean! Bean Sidhe would be more familiar to you as Banshee.

I will go read it now:)
The rating system can be a great boost to your ego. But it can deflate it as well. I had a similar experience, but in reverse. I submitted an article I thought would trample the competition, only to notice it hang down at 58 out of 80-something. I went back and leapfrogged it a couple weeks later, and BAM it jumped up to somewhere in the teens. I let it sit for a while and watched it crawl back down to rest around 25 or close to it. So I leaped it again, and watched it jump up to the single digits. It has now dropped down and rested in the teens...I think 17 or so, but there have been more articles written to the title, so its ranked higher.
I think its fun, encouraging, stressful, and discouraging to watch my rankings....

Yeah, mine bounce around quite a bit too! When I notice one is doing really well, I barely have enough time to get excited about it before it goes back down again! lol

Just, the more you write the more you earn. And I do take time in the week to rate too--because the more you rate other articles the more you'll be successful. And don't hesitate the ask people on here to read your artiles, that will earn you a few pennies. Spread the word. And if you have friends who like to write--get them to join under your name.
And if you'd like, I can show you a site that I've had quite a bit of success on, maybe even a little faster paced then Helium. I haven't submitted as much there, so I don't have more money than I do at helium--but based on content/earnings ratio it's really fast! Let me know if you're interested--and I can tell you more about it.
I tried the link you gave but it didn't work :(

Well you learn the answers to your questions from the parts in the story before what I submitted, but I'll be happy tp answer! :)
Bennet is beaten up because he's a lawyer who refuses to represent a company, and instead is representing the victims. And to say the least, the comanpy isn't thrilled! lol
Jeff is really just one of Bennet's partners. He isn't the one who beat the guys up. Again, if you had the rest of my story you'd know that! :D Jeff is pretty much a secondary character in my story. What you just read is where he's first mentioned. And there's only one or two more pages left of the story after it. It's a short story, 12 pages total :p

i am happy that you got your novel on the 8th position. Can you help me with helium?
actually i have written 4 articles at helium and are pretty well rated, but still i am not earning even a cent. I wonder if rating affects my progress too. so please tell me what are the hurdles that i have to jump over to start earning at helium?

Well the more you write the more you will earn, trust me! I have I think 45 or 46 articles on there right now.
But you earn off of how many people read your article. NOT based on when they see it in the "rating" section. But say, you give me a link to your Home Page (go ahead :P) and I'll go to your site, read all your articles...and that'll earn you credit for $$.
If you're interested I can send you a link for a new site I found that I'm earning faster there then I am at helium, and I've submitted less! :) And the best thing about this site is you can submit stuff you've submitted elsewhere! Let me know if you're interested :)
