Iran is calling on all Islamic countries to use oil as a weapon to end the fighting in Gaza. They want an embargo on not only Israel but also any of its supporters (by which you know they mean the US). They say by refusing to sell oil to the "western world" it will force us to stop Israel. "We need to use the westerns dependency on oil to our advantage".THey even went on to say that "all retailation options" should stay open to all Arab governments.
Well if you ever wanted to know why we should be energy independent NOW this is it. They know we need it. SO therefore they are going to try to control us to get it. You want oil? Do what we want. Don't do what we want....you don't get oil. Do you really want to dance to their tune? If it works the first time you know they use it again and again against us.What do you think needs to be done about this situation (oil as a weapon)? Do you think it will work?

Iran should not be selling oil to Israel until Israel allows Gaza and the West Bank to use it as they can afford. That is perfectly reasonable.

What about cutting it off to the rest of the "western" countries? they basically want to everyone to stop selling oil to any country it does not like. Personally I think it is not of Iran's business and they need to keep their nose of it. Just like it is none of the US business and they need to stay out of it.

If everyone just left them alone to sort it out for themselves then there would not be a world war 3. Let Israel and Humas deal with it. When they are ready to make peace they will....that or one side will finally win the war. Either way it will be over and no need for any other country to stick their noses in it.

It's Iran's oil... they have the right not to sell it. It's their way of showing solidarity with Palestine. Why have all these "western" countries refused to trade with Gaza? I'm honestly surprised Iran didn't do this sooner but I guess this time their alliance with Palestine was more important than money. Would you rather they start a third world war?

I don't believe the oil producing nations are going to heed the call of Iran because it's not in their best interest to do so on many levels. They have already cut back on production because we cut back on consumption, causing the price to drop. I do agree that we need to become as independent from foreign oil as we possibly can and do hope that the new administration works towards that goal. Nuclear power, natural gas, wind and biofuels are all decent alternatives, along with increased drilling for our own oil.
I also don't think that the oil producing nations believe that this country would be willing to dance to that tune and wouldn't want to risk the repercussions of pushing us too far.

But they do realize it is an effective weapon now to use to get what htey want. THey have it, the rest of the world needs it. That means they have leverage to hold over countries heads.

We all need to be energy independent. we all depend on them and this is going to get worse before it gets better I am betting. I don't think the us will pull out right away but eventually they will if they decide to cut us off completely since it is their right to do so because it is all on their land. I hope it doesn't work but for some reason I think it will.

Until we become energy independent unforunately we will have to play nice with them (or do without oil). YOu can bet it will get worse before it gets better.

If they get cooperation and interrupt our oil supply for very long, it would create havoc and largely affect the workings of the USA and other oil-dependent
nations. However, it would be best for us to buckle down and resist their demands or we will be giving up our sovereignty to terrorists who are bent on our destruction. They would also be giving up a lot of their revenues by refusing to sell to the western countries, and if we hold out the embargo would probably last a relatively short time. It would be extremely difficult for us to cope without the oil, but we could find ways to cope. It's best we find ways to cope anyway so we cannot be held hostage to their whims.

You can bet it would hurt but would be better than giving in to them. As for hurting them....not a bit. There are other countries that they would not embargo that need the oil. China is a huge buyer in oil. THey buy just about all they can get their hands on. Then India is also increasing their oil intake along with other countries....so they would still be selling it someone, just not us.
That is why they can get away with using it as a weapon. We need it but they do not need us. It is a very bad spot for the US to be in with them. We need to bite the bullet until we can become energy independent.

Iran always wants to be able to throw their weight around and to scare the west into believing that they hold the upper hand because of our dependency on foreign oil. I cannot wait until someone can stand up to the Iranian government and tell them, hey, we do not need your "stinkin'" oil anymore! The United States has to show the world that it can be dependent upon their own use of natural resources as well as oil as it supposedly has a surplus of it as well as areas that can be drilled for it providing the U.S. with the ability to stop its dependency on other foreign entities for its needs.
Every time the Israeli's need to take action, no matter how strong it is, to protect the security of its people, the world begins to scream FOUL! The Israeli's have the inalienable right to protect itself, even since it has given up so much, especially in the way of land and territory to help establish peace. The Israeli people only want to live in peace, they have shown this time and time again and yet, the Arab countries, the Palestinians, the Hamas and the Hezbollah only want to annihilate the Jewish State. At the same time, the Iranians want to blackmail the west again by creating oil as a weapon and to commit to an oil embargo. Well, go ahead and try it. Israel is going to break the back of the Iranian government and there will be nothing it can do to stop them.

Now mike I don't think you need to go that far.
I agree that Israel has a right to exist and defend herself. I also agree they have to walk softly and carry a big stick. THey are surrounded by enemies that are looking for one sign of weakness.

I don't think all muslim countries will listen to Iran. They know they will have a lot to lose if they do, because they buy their planes from us, lol. Old Dinnerjacket likes to flap his gums but he's nothing but hot air in my opinion. If they do blackmail us they will pay, and pay dearly, so I think for now it's just rhetoric.

It is not just muslim countries. Russia is doing it too. They cut off oil shipments to a few countries they do not like.

This is nothing but a control issue. This is a form of terrorism in its purest form. The US is more than capable to become self effecient it is like we just needed a reason for it. now the money that the dealers got should go towards electric cars. The natural gas companies should be more than willing to go in and change over homes heating for a cheap cost, after all they at that point can corner the market. They make it sound so damn difficult, our new president just has to have the nads to say this is what we have to do. We as Americans should not be held hostage in our own country and take any threats. I dont think Obama will fall into do what we ask or else. Hell as an american I say print the money to get rid of the threats and supply the united states with what they need to be not dependant on any country for the lives of our people. My god how many jobs would open up. Sure we will be poor for a little bit but ya know what if we keep on going in this direction where will we be. Sorry I know I am ranting The arab world will never like the western world and that is that.
