In general i like Americans but in my opinion they seem to think they live in the only free country in the world. They are too political and think any criticism about them is political .What do you think?

I agree with you 100%, I also like americans but i think the goverment tends to brainwash the population and they fall for it well alot do anyway. What irritates me is all this "we are bigger and better" attitude. The USA population is not that old and the majority had family come to the usa and settle 100s of years ago. I dont like flying into america as a european because i dont like the way i am treated as a terrorist. I am all for safty but i feel that needing information about my money status or having to queue in a like called aliens is stupid, an alien isnt even human! we dont make them stand in queues like that in other countrys. I also find it silly that americans can come into mexico with no passport but everyone who enters any other country needs a passport. If mexicans try to go to america they amount of forms they need to fill out is not fair comapared the us citizens being able to walk into countrys without passports. Please dont get me wrong i am not saying this agaisnt the people of america this is more the goverment and how some people are so sucked into it they are totally brainwashed.

I'm an American, and I can see why the media may portray us in certain ways. And sure, some stereotypes may be true for some people. But how do you know that was are brainwashed by the government? I don't really know anyone that believes anything the government has to say. Just because you see the way our President acts or what the TV says, doesn't mean it's an accurate representation of American life. I love traveling to other countries and enjoying other cultures, but my life has been threatened many times just for being an American. It's disheartening, because how can everyone believe what their TV says?

I agree. Obviously people vary just like anywhere else , but there does seem to be a perception from some in the USA that they are the only people with a true democracy , and they lead the world in that area. America has racial, political and religious issues just like the rest of us. There appears to be a lot of blind patriotism which can be just as dangerous as any more overt tyrrany.

I like Americans, I think they are like us in a way, I don't think we handle criticism all that well either, I just love it when celebrities come to this country and 5 mins off then plane reporters ask them what they think of Australia....:)

No we dont take criticism well as i know the Americans dont like being knocked but by calling themselves free and democratic as though they the only free and democratic country they are leaving themselves open to criticism . Yes i have to laugh when they ask what they think of Aust. I am sure they no idea of what it is like and even if they hated it they wouldnt say so

I am an American and proud to be...but.....I know we aren't the only free country and there are some awesome places to visit outside our 50 states and some awesome people. I feel you are wrong the say all Americans are too political and think any criticism about them is political. We are not all like that.

I know not all Americans are like that but that is the perception the rest of the world are given by the what Americans on sights like this say and by those on Holidays in other Countries. It is sad to think that there are some poor countries that rely on tourism that cant stand the Americans because of the superior attitude they betray and they seem them to show off.I have been told this on many occasions when we have been on holidays. It may be the way Americans are and dont mean it that way but that is how you are seen by others

Well, I am an American. Born and Bred in the USA, and I think you have it all wrong, as most Americans are not like this. There are some I am sure who do, but you need to remember no matter where you are, there are people who think they are better than others. Well, as the Political, you could be looking at it thru the point of view that Bush has percieved us to look like, which if he cared more about his Country he would not make himself look like we do not care about others.

Most Americans say we love America we live in a free democratic country "land of the free" as though you live in the only free democratic country in the world, it is sad to think this is the only thing that is quoted by nearly all Americans. I live in a free democratic country as does half the world but you seem to think your country is better more superior than any other country in the world. You dont hear people from other countries quote this when asked about their country.

I am American, and I do try to take criticisms politically. I know they can't be personal, because these people don't even know me, and a lot of them have probably never met an American. All they know about us is what makes the news which is usual political. I would certainly hate to believe that when someone on mylot states "Americans are all bad" they wouldn't be including me. All this "my country is better than yours" stuff makes me tired!

I agree with what you are saying to a point,i dont think Americans are bad and the general population are nice people but the Pride in their country can be a bit overbearing and as you said my country is better than yours is more prominent with Americans than any other country .They need to accept that there are other great ,free, democratic, and beautiful countries in the world besides America.I love my country i Think Australia is the best country in the world but i dont at every opportunity say i live in a free country i live in the best country in the world even though to me i think it every day and thank God every day that i was lucky enough to be born in this beautiful country

I love America and Americans. It is the greatest country in the world. All countries have faults, as America does too. But in general, it's the best all around.
