Would you rather donate to a charity that helps animals or people?

If you had to pick a charity to donate money or volunteer time to would you rather donate to a cause that helps animals or one that helps people. I contribute my time to both, once a week I volunteer at the food bank (Second Harvest) and once a week I donate my time to our local animal shelter. I feel that the animals (that are often forgotten) are more helpless and therefore need us more but on the other hand I think of the children that need our help too. I find more joy in volunteering at the animal shelter though it is harder work and much more dirty. Lately the people that benefit from the food bank have really been turning me off because they are often rude and from what I have seen many almost expect to be helped and they say thank you less and less. I don't understand it and it is most unpleasant to witness. I feel really bad about thinking this way but I am wondering if anyone else has struggled with this. What are your thoughts?

I would donate money to animals. Its just, animals dont have the capacity to earn money right? What i mean is, help animals with their needs which are food and mostly security. Unlike man, we have the capacity to earn a living. But what is happening right now, people just wait on donation for them to use in daily life.

I also support both types of charity, but I do understand what you're saying and agree with you. Animals are more of a joy to be around -- people, especially those who are having a hard time in life, are unpredictable. I've also encountered the same rudeness you've described from people, that ingratitude for being helped, whereas even a somewhat mean dog or cat still is usually happy to be fed! Still, I think it's important to help out both people and animals...they both can experience suffering, and that's why I believe in helping. It doesn't have anything to do with them being virtuous or nice or good; I don't even want nasty people to go hungry or unclothed.

Animals. Most people forget about animals especially cats, so I like to volunteer at places that help cats. I do however, donate to the Red Cross every year because people are important too and I have found that the red cross is one of the only organizations that acually does what it says its going to.

While I think both are worthwhile causes, I prefer helping people.

Defenatly animals because there are never enough people that care enough to look out for the animals. Not that I dont volunteer to help people I just enjoy helping animals more.
