Do you think it takes away from or adds to the movie American Beauty the way that they dont make Kevin Spaceys part lovable until the end?maybe this movie was different for you, but for me it was like this: the whole movie you know that he is going to die in the end, but i didnt really care cuz he was a very bland, whatever character. i didnt hate him but he wasnt lovable enough for me to care what happens to him in the end. plus, he was a total perv. but then 5 minutes before he dies they throw likable characteristics at you! like he turns down Janes pretend-5lut friend cuz shes a virgin and hes all of a sudden okay and he feels great. and then you know he is going to die any minute, its heartbreaking! i totally cried.. do you think this adds to the movie?i think that yes, it totally adds to this movie. i think it makes it so much more strong than having us like him the whole time. its so hard to lose a character when you've just begun to love him!

I think he found himself again in the end. I see him as this yes man kind of husband. Worked for his family and I see mom as a flake and he just shut down to preserve peace in the household. See him as pervert? LOL, well, what man isn't. I think in the ending he finally came at peace with himself, thus it's the beauty of the movie. He found the beauty again. Sad? I think it's really sweet in a way because he found himself again.
