Motorbikes To Use Bus Lanes - TFL

January 6, 2009 10:57am CST
In London starting yesterday (Monday) an 18 month trial starts to allow motorcyclists to use the restricted bus lanes around London, apparently to reduce the amount of accidents. I imagine motor cyclists are all for this, but allegedly pedal cyclists are not. What are your views?....

From experience in London some (not all) bikers tend to ignore most road rules anyway. Often they are zipping through bus lanes and i've seen them cut across pavements before. Usually they are couriers who also have a habit of ramping up onto the pavement and parking too. Watch your wing-mirrors folks ;)

I tend to agree with this, but having travelled to Vietnam, and Saigon in particular, I take most things back about motorcycle drivers!

If it works and reduces accidents, then I'd say it is a good thing. Not having been to London, I can't say for sure. Pedal bikers are almost always asked to take a back seat. Which is sad, because they are doing more for the environment.
