It's an automatic reaction for me to smile back at people. It's ingrained in me after all these years as a receptionist!

i think it is fun to smile and wave at people on the road. sometimes when you do they get this look on their face like do i know you? and other times the person gets real excited like they think they know you and they smile real big and wave back only to realize that they have no idea who you are. i find it amusing.

Normally I do not smile at strangers. It is again not a very practiced culture at our society and region. Therefore normally people do not give such smiles. And moreover everyone is so busy here, that they do not even care to give a glance, and goes their own way.

I would smile back if the person is male. I have had female strangers smiling at me and I did not smile back because I was nervous. A smile has more than one meaning and I was not sure which type was given at me. Was she trying to be friendly with me? Was there something wrong with the way I dress? Was my fly open? Was she smiling at someone behind me? These were several of the questions which passed through my mind. all the best, rosdimy

I always smile before the person even smiles at me. But if a person happens to smile before I do I always smile back. I think it is such a nice thing to smile at a person. It doesn't matter if you know the person or not. It is a way of acknowleding another human being and I love to smile at everyone.

Hi there, What an interesting question! I live in southern Kentucky and it is very common to meet someone on the road who smile and wave as you drive by them. It's called southern hospitality. Whether you know the person or not, it's just a common thing here to wave at people on the road. Being in such a small community, most people know everyone else. If you don't wave, you might here about it at work the next day. lol...seriously I always smile and wave back! meow & ciao!
