I don't smoke and never have. My mom used to smoke and when the dr. told my dad that he should quit smoking because his lungs were looking cloudy, she got scared and quit, cold turkey. My oldest daughter got Bronchitis last year then Pneumonia and she hasn't smoked since, Thank God. She quit about a year ago and has no desire to smoke anymore even though her husband still smokes. Unfortunately, my youngest daughter and my 2 step-sons still smoke. My youngest has Bronchitis now & I suggested that it might be a good time to quit, but no such luck. My advice would be to have him talk to his doctor. They always have ways to help people quit smoking. Good Luck to you and your son.

Well it has more to do with dertermination then anything else he has to want it ver bad to to smoking to actually make it and not give into the cravings no matter how bad they are. My stepdad quit cold turkey a few years ago. He had tried on and off for over 10 years to quit and tried alot of products and the only thing that worked for him was in the end he tried it cold turkey. And not being around those who smoke can help the process go a little more smoothly since they won't have to deal with seeing or smelling it.

I can highly recommend the book The Easy Way to Quit Smoking by Allan Carr. Published by Penguin.

If he reads the book without skipping any pages he will certainly be ready to stop by the time his quit date comes round...in fact, he will be looking forward to it.

I've never smoked, but my mom did for many years. She finally quit a couple of years ago - she took that presciption pill and it worked very well and VERY quickly for her. Of course, the key was that she really WAS ready to quit, and not just saying she was, or telling others what they want to hear. So the first step is for your son to REALLY and truly want to kick the habit, otherwise nothing will work no matter how hard he tries. Best of luck to him!

My boyfriend recently quit smoking. He used the patches. He had tried using the losenges before but didn't like them. It was hard for him, but what kept him motivated is the money that he would be saving. He got into the stock market and used the money that he saved from smoking to invest. Maybe he can find some hobby that involves money to keep him motivated.
