Would you rather have a pet cat or dog?

Hey everyone, I don't know why, but some people would prefer to have a dog over a cat, but on the other hand some would rather have a cat than a dog. Why is that? Is it because if you have a cat you don't have to walk it everyday, or is it because it doesn't bark all through the night? Would you rather have a dog so you could walk it every day instead of a cat that just sits around in the house? Please if you can, give you general opinions on whether you would rather have a pet cat or dog and why you would have that animal :D Coz I honestly don't know why people think "I hate cats" or "I hate dogs". I just don't know why they hate them! Thank you!
