fibro fog is what people call their concentration problems they have when they have fibromyalgia.. it literally makes you feel foggy and some times can be crippling to function on.. so for the people that have fibromyalgia in here how do you deal with your fibro fog? do you try to hide it so people may not think you are slow or stupid or do you just explain to people and try to avoid anything while you have it that requires deep concentration?

I really think that I don't have as bad a "fibro fog" as many seem to. I do know that I can have a short attention span/memory for somethings - like if I'm interupted before it comes out its gone. But, since I've been that way for so many years before we knew I had fibro I don't think anyone is much surprised any more. I've known one friend for over 30 years and I've pretty much always been this way... Maybe I've had fibro all this time?

Ya know, your probably right. I just think the problem I had in my early 20's, or the car accident at 18 might've made it worse, but who knew what fibro was back then...

I do work really hard to hide the fibrofog that I experience on a fairly regular basis. I teach, so I don't want it to show. I have started writing out my entire lecture under the guise of having really good notes for the students --I make copies and hand them out so that students aren't writing like crazy while I am talking. If anyone has figured out my secret, they haven't let on.

thats cool that you have found a system to help you keep it in check and keep it not noticeable

I just get forgetful so far and explain to people that I am forgetful, not to take offense if I have forgotten something they told me etc.

yeah i have to do that too because i cant remember anything some times as far as conversations go and i know it probably annoys others so i let them know ahead of time i may not remember or to remind me about it later etc

I used to try to hide it, but I gave it up. It's really not in my best interest. At times I can be in the middle of a sentence and then I can't remember what I was thinking. I find myself saying things like..."well I was going somewhere with that thought I just don't remember where." Or I'll get up to do something take a few steps and forget what it was I was going to do so people see me walking around trying to stir my memory and figure it out. Or I'll be looking all over the house for my keys....and they're in my hand. It seems to me better to let people know that my fibro fog is fairly thick at the moment than to let them think that maybe I'm just that dimwitted all the time!
