Boy or Girl?

In India in remote villages, people prefer to have boy kids than girls. Even now I have heard in some small villages, they kill the girl babies immediately after birth . But now a days things are changing slowly. Even in my family, my grandma(my dad's mom) was not happy when I was born and she always likes to be with my cousin (my aunt's son) instead of me. Have you heard about this in your place? If you are forced to choose one kid which one will you choose - a boy or a girl? If somebody asks me to choose, I will definitely cut my relationship with that person.

hmm..... in chinese culture also... they want sons to take over the business and properties... and of course their name...... every family wants a son.... in india.. the problem of having a girl child is .. when they grow up.. and have to get married, the girl bride's family has to give gifts that the groom demands.. like cars... bikes... money, gold jewellery... in india called dahaaj... thats one reason the families dont want girls.... when you go to orphanages in india.. u see alot of girl childs.. all abandoned at the orphanages doorstep.... it is sad to see....

Everyone is equal. There was the same situation in my country before, but it's changing better now. Most of the families in our country has only one child, so the parents love their child very much no matter the child is a boy or a girl. Now many families want have a girl, I also want a girl baby when I get married.

If I was forced to choose only one kid I would choose a girl. In my view and with my own experience girls tend to care more for their parents. A daughter wil always be a daughter for life a boy will be your son until he is married. I'm not saying all boys are that way but I must admit that it depends a lot on the woman they will marry. Take care.

Right. I am the only daughter to my parents and I have no brothers or sisters. I take care of my parents even today...

The situation is getting better now then also some people love/like boys more (it is a part of Indian culture - preference goes to boys). Earlier girls are not allowed to get proper education but now girls proved her ability in every sector. She is getting high education and ready to take new challenges in life. Then also in remote village, people are aborting unborn daughters. Actually the culprits are the doctors who are doing the abortion for money. In my opinion both are equal. Both have the right to live and people should realise the fact and respect both genders.

well i can never chose between a baby boy or a baby girl because i think that they both have equal rights and that we should love them equally!!!
i have a cousin who has 3 boys and he always says that if he had a daughter he would be very angry!! but where is the logic in that!!!
anyway if anyone told to chose between them then i will give him a befitting reply :)

The information you shared is just gruesome. I just could not imagine that in our modern time there are still incidents of barbarism. Every person has the right to live beginning at conception. There are no similar acts in our place. If i am forced to choose one kid, i would choose a boy.

hello vidhyagowri,
So sorry to hear that in your place they prefer to have boy kids than girls. And that, they'll kill the baby at once when it is a girl.
Well in our country, it's not like that and we're so lucky about it. Here you can have as many kids as you want - and that is sometimes not good for we're one of the top ten in the world who has the great number of population.
I'm already a parent and am blessed with three children, two boys and one girl. When my wife gave birth to our first child, we prayed really hard that whatever will give to us either a boy or a girl will be very much appreciated, more so if he/she will come out safe and healthy. Same was true when our second and third.
Having a child is really a gift from up above and we should treasure and be thankful for that. We don't have the right to kill them. We should give them the right to live and love.

It makes me sick that some countries do this. Especially when there are good people in other countries who can not have babies and would love to have those babies. That does not happen here in the United States, this would be considered murder here, and the offenders would go to prison. No country should be allowed to senslessly murder babies.

Am really wondring if what you said (killing infant baby girls) still exist in your society nowadays? I know it's some kind of prejudice and an act of barbarism which I heard only exist in primitive time. Does your government allow it? It's inhuman; everybody has the right to live regardless of the gender. I know there are culturers that gives more favor or preference to males than w/ the women but persecuting is a different story. If those people there only want males babies then how can they grow as community? Can they be productive w/ men alone? This is horrible. If am going to have a child i would accept and be thankful for having one be it a boy or a girl.

I've heard of such practices in other countries. And I'm always amazed at how uncivilized a practice it is in this modern age. I cannot imagine people killing their child just because it wasn't a boy! And I can't imagine a country that allows this to happen without punishment. I find it especially sad that your own grandmother would not be thrilled with the grandaughter she has. I'm sorry that things are that way in your country. I hope as time passes people move beyond such old beliefs.

I heard that before, even in my countries, some people still like boy kids more than girl. But I'm scared that in some small villages they kill the girl babies immediately after birth, it's really unhuman. My father still like boy kids more than girl, so I have two sisters.

I know of the deaths of the girl children. My heart sinks whenever I hear of it. I'm glad things are changing.
Would I choose? Nope, because my culture is different. Even if it came down to it, I just don't see the need to choose.

It's not only in remote villages that couples desire to have boys, it's in the urban places also where the pregnant women get themselves aborted if the scanning shows girl child. Recently I read in newspaper, there is a state in North India where the ratio between the girls and boys is alarmingly large because a number of illegal abortions take place there. Goverment has started taking strong steps to stop the abortions. In every Nursing home there is a printed banner put up, written clearly that the gyne will be highly penalised if he/she helps in aborting the embryo.

To me, boy or girl does not matter as long as he/she is a healthy baby when I was pregnant with my first baby. Now, I have delivered a baby boy four months ago, he is definitely the precious in our family.
Just to share an innocent words from my 2-years-old nephew when we asked him whether he prefer to have a younger sister or brother. His answer is: I want neither younger brother nor sister, I just want a baby!

I think the situation is the same in China with the One Child Policy inforce. For those who can afford to go for an Ultrasound scan to determine the gender of the foetus, they would go for an abortion if it is a girl. Fortunately in my country, the government is encouraging people to have more children as a counter measure for the aging population problem. Although the Chinese still believe in males being the heir of the family, people do not go into drastic measures especially when law has extensive control over people's action. Cheers and Happy MyLotting...

Yes it was happened once upon a time in indian villages, but now it was reduced day by day .Bcoz we can see many literate peoples in india, now they are educated they can understand the importance of girl.Woman are now equally treated with men in many fields . Now we can see girls in almost all the field .So it is not a matter whether it is a boy or girl .All i need is only a healthy baby without any problem.

For some reasons some people prefer boys than girls in some remote villages here, the most important reason is, when the boy reach his 18 years old, they will get their own field, but the girl can't get that like the boy. *^_^*
If I was married in the future, I will have a baby, no matter girl or a boy, that is ok, because they are my children, I will love them forever.
