What a macabre coincidence!

I have just read the following article about a memorial for a man that was taken by a shark at Port Kennedy Beach in Western Australia. They have unfortunately not found the body yet, but his son was with him when he was taken by the shark so there is no question that this was his cause of death.
What I find as the macabre coincidence is that while 250 or so people were standing on the beach as part of a memorial for this man, a SHARK was sighted by them all swimming by. What are the odds of this happening and how freaky that this would happen at that very moment! Here is the link to the article if you are interested:

This is not the first coincidence I have read about that occurred in direct relation to the death of someone and I am sure it won't be the last either! Do you have any interesting coincidences to share?

I think this is absolutely sane and the shark is but Mr. Brian G swimming by to inspect his memorial. He is the Shark Man, have no doubts, James!!

Interesting angle mimpi! Maybe he has indeed become one with a shark and was making his presence known to all that respected and cared for him in his previous life! The sad thing is that if they had of captured the shark, they probably would have killed it. So his second coming would not have lasted long! Thanks for the response and for the new perspective.

I've hear about similar coincidences and further question being raised about them James. Reasons, well could be the shark had made that particular area its hunting ground for sometime and happened to be seen there again. Also if the beach was a shark manifested beach then the likely of seeing shark there again is hihg.
Any other reasons than this and i'm as lost as you are.

Timing is the question James no doubt? But then should we let our imagination go wild ? Brave shark telling everybody , i did this, do what you can ? reicarnated shark taking revenge of previous life time.
But in ways here in India they do have incidents of these kinds and stories related to snakes.

Sharks are territorial and can cover vast areas of the ocean as part of their hunting ground. Different cycles such as mating times etc can also influence their behaviours. As I have said already in my post wording, shark SIGHTIGS are very common, so to see one at this beach is not unusual in itself. What I do find intriguing though is that this shark decided to show itself 10 days after a man was killed by a shark and everyone was gathered on the beach in rememberance! Interesting timing on that shark's behalf! Thanks for the response Alok.

Interesting coincidences? Did you hear about the 5th grade class that saved a sea otter from an oil spill out on the west coast of the USA? The scrubbed the oil off him and nursed him back to full health over a period of time. Then they had a 'returning to the sea' ceremony for the otter with the whole class attending.
Guess who else showed up? An orca! He got the otter after it had been in the water only a few minutes. Everyone saw it happen. What a coincidence.

Hahahaha. Now try and explain THAT one to the kiddies! lol. I read an article many, many years ago along these lines, but it was a seal and not a sea otter. It was some Sea World type organization that released the seal back into the wild after a boat had hit it and an Orca snatched it when it had only gone a few hundred feet from the release boat! No kids around for this one thoough! Is this yet another interesting coincidence that there are 2 completely seperate incidents that follow similar lines!

It probably is not a coincidence in the normal sense. I searched to find the orginal story. It is quite old and I did not find it. I did find that orca's are driving sea otters to the brink of extinction and to a lesser extent, the seals are getting eaten in large numbers, too. Orca's eating seals and otters is very common.

I have been looking for references too, but have come up short as well. If I have any luck, I'll post it here or PM it to you. The story I read originally was a long time ago as well. By the sounds of things, it's a damn good thing that neither you nor I are otters or seals!

Hardy Boys! Wow, it has been a long time since I have thought about these books and I used to read them when I was a child. Many Australians are generally not very superstitious so I doubt this would be something that came up at all. I am sure though that many of the people that witnessed it would be as intrigued by the coincidence as I am! I too consider this to be a horrible way to die and I can't think of many worse fates than being attacked and killed by any animal, let alone a shark. Thanks for the response riya and stay out of the water!

I love water too and love to swim also! I just don't get the opportunity to do it though. I will be making up for lost time though when I get back to Australia! It is great that your daughter enjoys swimming as it is such a positive activity for kids. If you get the chance, you should try also riya as it is a very healthy pursuit and a lot of fun to boot!

Shark sightings in Australia are common, but attacks are rare. I just find it interesting that a shark would appear at the memorial of a man that was TAKEN by a shark ten days earlier! Thanks for the comments rkrish and Happy New year to you as well. Nice to see you back.

I am not sure if it was the same shark that attacked the man rkrish, but it more than likely was a different one. Many people think shark attacks are common in Australia, but the reality is that you have a greater chance of being struck by lightning than being attacked by a shark!
