Do you wear goggles or dark glasses even inside rooms or premises?

I have observed some of the persons wearing dark glasses even in the evening or at night. Some of them wear it at places where these are not required to be worn. I feel uneasy if I wear dark glasses other than the day time or when I am outside. I immediately remove my glasses so that I could see the objects clearly. However, I fail to understand why some men and women wear it the goggles or dark glasses even in rooms. What could be the likely reasons for wearing such glasses in dark, in your opinion? Also, would you wear dark glasses or goggles, when it is not required? Please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I only wear dark glasses for protection from the heat of the sun and sometimes when it is too windy, so nothing would get into my eyes. I am also not comfortable wearing dark glasses inside of any building or where it is not needed. Maybe, people who wear dark glasses even in the dark are hiding something , like eyebags, sore eyes, black eyes and others that make them uncomfortable so they cover them by wearing dark glasses always. That is just what i think.

If it is a medical problem, then it is understandable to wear dark glasses, but those who appear alright also wear it, this is preplaxing to me. May be they have something to hide.

Much like our Karunanidhi or the film stars??!!
To be sure, among my acquaintances, I have never come across people wearing dark glasses inside or during the night time if they do not have any eye ailment. I remember the time I had conjunctivitis and I had to wear dark glasses to protect the affected eye and OMG it was so difficult inside the house or during night timeā¦I could hardly see anything.

It has been years that i have worn dark glasses or gogggles Dpk. And during that period i used to wear them only when the sun light was extrememly bright and used to hurt my eyes. I would never wear them inside the house and find it difficult to understand how people leave them on indoors where the lighting is much lower in any case.

This is precisely my question, dark glasses are for bright sun light and when it is day time, but why some people wear it in rooms etc. (one of the respondents above has stated that it is due to medical reasons), I fail to understand. I thought my dear friends could throw some light on the issue.

I only wear sunglasses when I am outside in the bright sun. I don't feel that I need them when I am inside or the sun isn't out. I like the ability to be able to see clearly.

The answer to my question remains, why do some people wear dark glasses in the rooms, can you guess?

I am sorry, this time I don't have an answer for you. I wear goggles while traveling in bike; it is just for the protection of eyes. I think you also understand the dust problem while traveling in two wheelers, but before getting down the bike I remove the same because it irritates me (actually I don't like to wear the same). People are different and may be they have their own reasons? Let us watch what the other people say.
Have a nice weekend.

Hi deepak,
Now I have no use of goggles or dark glasses, because now I wear spectacles all the time . I have both far & near spectacles as well as reading. Only when I am travelling in the bus and sun is shining directly on my eyes then I put my goggles, or else I will get headache.
But wearing goggles inside the rooms does sound a bit weird to me too. Because why should we see things unclear, when we can actually see them clear by removing our goggles.....but this depends on personal choice of each person and as long as people feel comfortable about it, they have full freedom to do what ever they want , after all it is their eyes and their goggles.

Yes, you are right there could be so many reasons for wearing dark glasses during darkness, how can we know. Some of the members have said that it may be due to medical reasons, or glaring lights or some kind of fashion statement. Also, I agree, everyone has full freedom to do, whatever he/she likes to do.
Thanks for sharing.

I believe as long as people can see clearly with the dark glasses, it should be fine to wear them. Dark glasses have a purpose - to hide what people want to hide. These people could also have bought expensive glasses and wanted to make full use of it. LOL.
I am not sure about the glasses worn by those you have observed. I have friends who wear dark glasses in dark rooms. The main reason is that those dark glasses are not normal glasses. They help to relax the eyes and best worn in dark rooms.

Welcome! I have seen you after a very very long time in any of my discussion. I thought that you have forgotten me or else you are too busy to come on mylot. It is a news to me that dark glasses could be relaxing, when worn in a dark room. Hiding factor is alright, when someone wear it inside rooms, it is assumed that something he is hiding.

Hi deepak! I do wear dark glasses when I am outside and at daytime. I take it off once I don't need to wear them or improper to wear them. I guess, sometimes people wear dark glasses even if it is not appropriate anymore so they can hide probably a bruised eye, a reddening eye or maybe if they have some eye condition.
Take care and have a nice day!

No I don't, I don't want my real view impeded..lol...I prefer not using glasses as I don't want anything on my face. I feel uncomfortable with anything on my face. They wore the glasses probably to hide their black eyes or red rimmed eyes, or they have sore-eyes---eewwww. or they have cried all night long for someone and wanted to hide their bulging eyes. Happy mylotting.

Hey deepak! I found it annoying too when people using sun glasses at the wrong place. I know sometimes they do it for fashion but I guess in every dress and everything that we put on our body there's always a proper place and a proper time. I remember one time when someone's using dark glasses at the party, a guy teases her and as her, where's the sun? I know it sounds rude and I hope it will serve as her lesson.

I really appreciate your thinking, wearing dark glasses at the wrong place does not make any sense, these kind of people look 'odd' if they are in a group or say in a party. I think, they do not want to face the reality and just want to hide something. Yes, you are correct in your assessment, the guy's sarcastic remark would have pinched that girl and she should take a lesson from it.
Thanks very much for sharing that experience.

Hello my friend dpk262006 Ji,
Well, it has been since many years in past, that I used goggles in hot sun outside to give soothing sites to my eyes, that do, when I was ridding cycles etc. But, after I am using my by-focal acpectacles, I never use anything else, other than prescribed. I am using my transparent glasses other than during sleep. It has been since 1975 onwards. Coming to think of such characters, certain people do not want to face the world directly, so they focus their goggles at first instant, they eyes may be be attaractive and may not come across something bad, which may be harmful to them. May God bless you and have a great time.

Thanks for the details. You mean to say that some people are too afraid to face the other people directly. Do you think dark glasses help them achieve their targets?

Hello my friend dpk262006 Ji,
Well, I assume so, may be taht they do not want to show themselves, now-a-days I come across many people, who wrap up their faces with cloth, put on dark goggles and ride scooters, people use dark glasses for their cars (wich has been banned some places). I think it should be taken negative attitude, who do not allow other person to see their eyes as well. Look from eyes has much significance roll about one's character. So we should be able to make out one's impression after looking into eyes. may god besss you and have a great time.

It all depends on if there is too much light in the room that I am in. The sunlight kills my eyes.

I don't wear dark glasses even when it is required let alone inside rooms. I once bought photo chromatic glasses but soon I found it uneasy and switched to my conventional plain glasses.

I don't know about most people but my daughter wears sunglasses at what I would call inappropriate times frequently. When she was younger I used to get onto her all the time for wearing them indoors or in the evening when the sun wasn't shining. One day we were in the store and she was looking at the sunglasses on display because she needed a new pair. She tried on pair after pair. Finally I asked her what type she was looking for. She told me she was looking for a pair that would not show her eyes. You see, for all these years she was hiding behind those sunglasses.

I can understand the 'hiding' factor, that is the only factor which appears logical to me for wearing dark glasses during darkness. Thanks for sharing.

Heyya dpk..I only wear dark glasses if I'm in the sun. When I go in somewhere,I push them on top of my head or take them off. My b/f used to wear dark glasses all the time..sometimes even in stores.I didn't understand and he said the light hurt his eyes and gave him a headache. He went to the eye doctor and they said he had a stigmitism which would make him extra sensitive to light. Now that he has his normal glasses..he doesn't need to wear the shaded ones any more. They even automatically adjust to the light. If he's outside they automatically get dark...inside they lighten up to normal.

Yes, you do the right thing by wearing sun glasses, when these are requird to be worn. Sharp light may be reasons for some people to wear dark glasses inside a room or store. Many thanks for sharing. I could not see it earlier.

I do. I live with fibromyalgia. It's a chronic pain condition that affects the whole body. Because of it my eyes are very sensitive to light. I not only wear sunglasses all winter and often indoors but I make sure those glasses are large enough that light doesn't get in over the top or side rims. It can be just plain blinding for me at times.
I don't wear them in my house, but then I have soft lighting and I keep the curtains closed most of the time which is really kind of a shame because I have a great view outside!
Then you take someone like Bono of U2. While would automatically think the glasses are kind of his trademark or he wears them just to be cool, he too has an eye condition that makes him very sensitive to light.

Katiedidit! I appreicate your candid response and feel satisfied to read your reasons for wearing dark glasses or reasons for covering your eyes. You are doing it, perhpas, under medical advice and it is wise thing to do, when you have problem otherwise. The one who has some medical problem and he/she wears glasses is alright, but what about those who appear perfect and wear dark glasses in the evening? All cannot be medically unfit, I believe.
Many thanks for joining and sharing with us.

I have a degenerative eye disorder that causes SEVERE light sensitivity, it has also damaged the surface of my eyes, causing visible abnormalities. Being a little self concious about their appearance and wanting to protect them at all times I almost exclusively wear very dark glasses or goggles. Given the degree of my impairment my other senses have compensated and I can navigate dark rooms and even caves better than people with better vision. Just thought i would "shed some light" from my perspective, sometimes it is about protection, and hiding something.
