I dont like the word loin.. and i'm sure there are other ones.. Are there any words that you really dont like or downright hate that you think should be taken out of the language ? A word maybe you dont understand if english is your second langage.. english sometimes doesnt make a whole lot of sense.. What would you do if you had the power ?

I cannot think of any words that should be deleted from the english language, but I think we should relearn the meanings of some of the words that we use everyday and some of the words that we have stoped using. The word aweful used to mean "full of awe" not horrible like it does today. Gross means 144 not horrible. It goes on. Shalom~Adoniah

hey, I'm studying linguistics and so get interested in your post. i don't like words or phrases that have the siliar or even the same meaning because they can easily confuse me. For example, I posted in one of my discussions about a problem during my learning English: ---____do you prefer, tea or coffee? ---I prefer tea __than coffee. How do you fill the blanks? Some say "which" some say "what", some "more" while some "better". Of course, synoyms make a language more colorful but bring difficulities for learning at the same time.

Hehe...So, these things cause me troubles when doing the exampapers. But, they do not influence communication of course. Language is used to communicate, to convey ideas. I would not like to ban any words, because every word has a reason for its exsitence.

Puke would be one of them...it even sounds disgusting. There are several words that I wonder where they came from...who made them up! Like boogers...

Ok hun- get ready for a mature content tag. :) I'm in nursing school so I hear some of these words quite a bit: Sphincter- AKA Butthole- it grosses me out and makes me laugh like a 12 year old. Digits- in the context of fingers and toes- grosses me out too. No idea why. Orifice- just can't stand that word. Expired- used in the context of someone dying. I just hate it, makes the person sound like a carton of spoiled milk. Oh gosh, nursing school is just getting under my skin way too much. I need a break!

I'm not fond of cutesy little slang shortcuts such as hubby or whatever. But otherwise, can't think of anything.

I think loin is a perfectly good English word. My yoga teacher who was Indian used to say loin when he meant lion. Cheers!!

I kinda agree with you on the loin thing....whoever made up that word was a loser....but i absolutely HATE the word STUPID....I mean I know that it is a perfectly good word for some people but some people tend to over use the word and I just do not like it at all.
